Getting his own broker authority would make no sense unless he wants to start up his own brokerage business.

To cut out the brokers he needs to get direct shippers to haul for.

What would be the point to become a broker to broker loads to yourself?:biggrin_2552:

Totally a separate business from the trucking. Lawyer's and insurance jockey can't touch it.

Not true by any stretch. We have a hard and fast rule......Broker Authority must be separate corporate identity, be located separately and have separate phone/fax/e-mail, otherwise we won't provide coverage.

Carriers have been brought into losses "arranged" under BA, only because there was a deep pocket (Insurance Carrier), and the OOs coverage wasn't sufficient to pay the loss.

Like I said, IF separated entirely....corporate identity, address, phone, fax etc, then yes......but if not separate fewer and fewer carriers are willing to entertain.......and with CAB relating all of the basic underwriting information, it's getting harder and harder to bury/disguise chameleon operations and related broker authorities.......but what do I know, I've just been underwriting truck business for 40+ years

    very good ideas out there-
what do we trucking companies need to go and get our own customers?
    1. Where do we find them?
    2. Do we need formal proposals -packets?
    3. Contacts- agreements?

    THANKS

Just to eleviate any more 'grey' areas regarding independents securing their own business, dissolovinbg the 3pl population considerably.

I operate 1 truck and 2 trailers.....You can EASILY secure your own freight with minimal equipment.

Van freight is a little harder because the way logistics are set up today, Very little JIT freight which goes to expediters..And many shippers look for volume carriers to agree on contract lanes,(aka contract carrier)

Flatbed is So much different......In my experience 50-75% of ALL flatbed moves from my area are spot market freight to GOOD points,

You can EASILY secure customers directly in days......Even your inbound freight can be material your outbound customers need....Pushing out Brokers nearly 100%...

Once you achieve the wholesome goodness of operating your truck broker-free...You'll see the weight lifted off your shoulders, and your profits are increased 20-40% throughout the year.

Are freight brokers really needed? Who Knows...All I can say is this, Next time you and your loved ones(family) decide you want to go to see a baseball game and you can only buy tickets online...Remember it was a 'broker' who just charged you $575 for 4 tickets and a parking pass on a face value of $40 per ticket
