Well according to safety it was a minor incident with just paint transfer. I can only speak on my incident and my conversations with safety.. As of today the indcent doesn't appear on my DAC or PSP.. The point of my message was you are still hireable. Don't stay OTR if you don't want to. Look local and apply local if that's what you want todo.. Don't assume you're not hireable
The reason i said that, is because i went thru this same situation in 2006, when i left this company with 6 months experience and fresh accident on my record and tried to get a local trucking job. Did not work out. I have been looking online at these local companies and their requirements are no accidents or moving violations within the last 3yrs. So you think that i can talk them out of the requirements they are looking for in a driver? I will try to fill out some applications after i have been with prime a year which is 3-14-14 that is my annual review to see if prime will find i am useful enough driver to keep working for them, then after that date i will see if i get any offers of employment with a fresh accident on my driving record. And i will let u know the results. I would have to stay with prime for 3yrs. without an accident to be more desirable to employers, but i cannot see the road for that long, so i am stuck between a accident and a hard place. Might have to seek other career options, but for right now, i will stick with prime another year if they let me. I only have 81,000 driving miles, i would need a 100,000 for it to be a year of experience right?
Your mistake may be looking at purely local companies. I have a local, home every day job with a mid-sized (1,000ish trucks) carrier that runs mainly east of the Mississippi. In Richmond, there are about 20 drives that are home every, or almost every night. My account has 6 drivers, 3 of us are purely local serving as yard jockeys or shuttle drivers for a cardboard plant, and 3 are regional drivers that run loads out of the plant. There is another local account with 10 local home every night drivers that run 8 times a day from Richmond to Colonial Heights and back, and finally, there are 4 or 5 drivers that do local pick ups and deliveries. As long as the accident you had wasn't a DOT recordable preventable accident, you would meet the basic requirements to be hired by the carrier with a year of experience. As of this moment, there are no local jobs available in Richmond, but I do know that on the account I'm on, there is a strong possibility of one of the local and/or one of the regional drivers leaving in the next few months.
Hey sazook, did not know you responded to my thread until now. thanks for the info. i dont know if they put it on my dac as preventable or non, but i will find out. safety did say it will go on my driving record, because i damaged the truck. as far as i see it, it was preventable, so i guess i will have to go another year here at prime, hopefully no more accidents.
The issue wouldn't be a preventable accident, but a DOT Recordable preventable accident, which, reading back about your accident, it should not be. Also, one of the regional drivers on the account called me today and asked if he could use me as a reference on a job application he was filling out, so there should be a regional position open within the next month or so I would imagine.
I am surprised you would say that, given the way you were saying to stick with what i got. wonders never cease. lol
You're looking to go local, and Sazook's carrier has potential openings. Best strike while the iron's hot, as they say!
If you believe i can fill out an application with the company you work for and actually get the job, which i know none are available yet, just let me know in a pm when your company has a local position open and i will apply right away. thanks. i would really like to be home everyday. i will be going home either today or in a couple days depending on if dispatch send me on another trip or not. and will get my driving record and look into filling out some apps.
