Hi truckingwithjosh, I am doing good. As far as going local, that is my plan, but only if I get any good offers and if anything is paying decent and also depending on those companies I am looking at are hiring at the time I am ready to leave prime. Will probably be at prime longer than a year based on what I mentioned earlier. I don't have a problem with prime as long as I get my checks on time and get my hometime, it is good. You can run as hard as you want depending on the fm you have and what is available each week. Its not guaranteed your going to run 3000 or more miles every week, but if you get a fm that likes to run their drivers until they say uncle, then you should get a lot more than 2200. I ran a little over 2800 last week, but this week not so much, because I am trying to get to a terminal. I have a fm that don't like to see me sit for a day if that tells you anything.

Hi sazook, so that is what you are hauling local now? So you need a year of experience for that job? Does it pay enough for me to afford rent or even buy a house? If it does, I am definitely interested if it will have open positions by the time I decide to leave prime.

Actually Ironpony, I don't have insurance with prime. Unless you are talking about the insurance that covers accidents that the drivers might have while driving for prime. iIf you are talking about health and so on, I don't have it with prime.

While at Paulsboro I got a message that I will be repowering a load to Lewiston, me. Wind up being 30min late after 0901, but found out when I got there, that it was 2hrs and 30 min late, but they still put me in a door. The same day after that delivery I got a load out of the same place I delivered to with a stop in Leominster, ma. then the 90 in Coventry, ri. delivered that 1 early. Now I am on a load picking up in Gloucester, ma. to hazelton, pa. finally heading towards the pitt:yes2557:.

A company's insurance carrier determines who gets a seat, and what qualifications they are willing to accept to allow one to drive. There is enough demand for local jobs that most places will require at least two years, and local companies can usually pick an choose who they want to drive for them. Also, because of that demand, the pay isn't always the best.

...that's a generalization. Obviously, there's an outfit in Richmond that bucks that generalization. When I started driving in 2008 I checked around the local Denver market, and found quickly that just about everywhere I called wanted 5 years- and those that didn't were not the best jobs. Hauling rocks for $100 a round was one of the few that would hire just about anybody.

Ts good that your doimg well and your moving all the time. I know its not garuentueed 3000 miles a week, but they seem to keep you nice and busy with miles and loads. That's good that the fm keeps you moving and doesnt like to let you sit. Thats stuff I like to hear, im open to hear about good/bad about trucking through other ppls exp. Do you really have any negatives about prime? Be safe and enjoy the ride.

Yes, I'm one of 6 drivers on the account. I work 7-5 Monday thru Friday shuttling trailers from the box plant to a warehouse. The other 5 drivers are 2 yard jockeys for the plant, and 3 regional drivers that take loads to customers and are home every night.

As far as experience, one of the regional guys came on directly out of training (the account is with a medium sized OTR carrier), however, if you came over with less than a year of experience, I think the carrier requires you to go thru a training phase.

The pay isn't what I would make at Prime, but then again, I'm home every night, off most weekends, and able to take a full time college course load. I'm easily able to afford my rent (1 bedroom in the upper fan) while having full insurance, contributing 4% to a 401k, and making the maximum yearly contribution to my IRA, and still have money left over at the end of the month.
