Yeah, I understand what you are saying, its quite a few trucking jobs in va. that require 2 or more years of experience or you have to have a h/s diploma or ged or they wont even look at your application. There are jobs that also only require 1 year of experience, but like you said, might not pay well, but I don't want to be on the road for 3 to 4 weeks at a time with prime with no personal time to myself, but 4 days a month. I want to have more time than that to visit friends and family and do other personal stuff than just being on the road most of the time. I will sacrifice a reduction in pay at a local trucking company as long as it is not too low where I would be able to live on my own and pay bills, than keep living with family, sis-n-law. I don't think I would need more than 5-$600.00 a week after taxes to pay my bills because I am not getting a new house, I already have 2 decent vehicles that are paid for. Just need a place I can call my own, And a decent local trucking job and I will be happy.

Did not go to the pitt when I got to hazelton. Weekend dispatch had other plans. I tried to back out of the trip, but winded up doing it anyway. Going to breinigsville, pa. to pickup a 1-stopper to westborough, ma. then 90 to yantic, ct. then headed to Schenectady, ny. to pickup load going to new Hampton, ny. I then went to pickup at Burlington, nj. and delivered to Pottsville, pa. where from there I finally was told to drop my mt in hazelton, pa. and bobtail to the pitt. I will be leaving tomorrow as soon as my fm finds me a load, so i can make some more money before heading for hometime next week.

Hello everyone, its time to update my thread again. after leaving pottsville, i went to hazelton, pa. to deliver in wintersville, oh. then went to groveport, oh. to deliver in stuarts draft, va. then went on hometime. went to newport news, va. to deliver to pottsville, pa. but did not have time to make it, so i repowered the load in jessup, md. and repowered the drivers load to the 90 in jessup then to williamsport, md. then went to baltimore, md to deliver to lewiston, me. then picked up a load from lewiston,me with 3-stop and back to lewiston. then pickup load in frenchville, me. to mechanicsville, va. but was not going to make it so repower in nj. did not write down the exact city, but got his mt and got a load the next day to pickup in hillsborough, nj. to springfield, mo. then i pickup load in springmo salt lake city, ut. but did not take it to slc, but repowered to a driver at the mini terminal; drop yard in denver, co. needing to get to slc. picked up mt to get to greeley, co. for a load to west jordan, ut. went to burley, id. to deliver to albuquerque, nm. then went to cactus, tx. to pickup load going to norcross, ga. then picked up at a drop yard in atlanta, ga. for a down the street run, guess what; still was late. then went to kennesaw, ga. drop yard to pickup load to nicholasville, ky. went to get load in louisville, ky. to deliver in palmyra, pa. then went to orefield, pa. to deliver to frederick, md. then went on hometime. then went to glen allen, va. where i usually drop mt for hometime. 1st load out of there in 8 months to chester, ny. then went to gloucester city, nj. to deliver to wilmington, ca. but did not think i could make it on time, so i repowered it to a driver in springmo. left springmo with a load to romeoville, il. then to university park, il. to drop mt and loaded to madison, wi. pickup load in darien, wi. and drop at americold in clearfield, ut. even tho it was a drop, i was told to wait for a signature even tho what they do is unload trlr first, then stamp the bills and fax it to prime. it would have save me from having to stay there and wait for a signature if they would have told me that in the first place, but was not any mt trlrs to take at that time, so i had to wait for the trlr to get mt anyway. so in the last 3 or 4 deliveries i had both engine lights on and an active fault code, so now i am at freghtliner in west valley city, ut. waiting until they fix the def under pressurize thing. have not been down long, almost 2 days, but i think its like a lifetime for prime. lol

Hello again everyone. I hate to come on here with bad news, but i had an accident. it ocurred on the 5th of this month. I was running out of driving time when i made the bad decision of jumping off the highway the night before instead of getting a hos service violation and continued to a truckstop. but instead i went into this little town of dexter, ia. to get to the caseys general store that i thought had parking for trucks, no, so i made a left and went up the road and came to this railroad track. i saw a spot on the side of the road just before the railroad track, so i park there that night. I woke the next morning intending on turning around because i was not going further into the residential area, so i saw this opening across the street from where i was parked between the railroad and a small building on the corner, but it was a 2nd railroad track curving into the opening, so i decided to u-turn there, but when i saw a way out as i went further into the opening i continued across the curved track, and when i went across the truck dropped down onto the track and i continued across and got out of dexter, not knowing i had damaged the plastic body on the right side of the truck under the bottom step. I found out the next day after when i got fuel and went in the store and came back out and saw the damage. I talk to safety about it and she said i would not lose my job over it which is a relief, but i would need to stay another year without an accident in order to get a shot at a local truck driving gig. Did not want to stay on the road another year but i have no choice now. Wont be going on anymore back roads, unless the back road leads to the 01 or 90.

Sad to hear your story. We all learn through the school of hard knocks, and I am glad that you shared yours here. The more we share these stories, the better we can all deal with situations.
Hindsight is always a mother.... I think that taking a HOS violation would have been a better choice, but you couldn't see that coming until after the fact. One tool that I use to try to stay out of these situations is google maps with the satellite overlay. You might not have had time to do that.
Since you have been out a year, and you do want more hometime, you might consider transferring over to the lease side. You have to know yourself, and before you do choose, you must be ready to learn business and have the self discipline to control your money.
