In orientation for cypress now. First day was a ton of paper work, drug test and physical. Only 2 of us here this week.
First impression is the Abilene terminal is very laid back.
Hotel is much better than I was expecting it to be. When the recruiter tells you there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance ask her how far she walks. I can see a Denny's on the other side of the interstate and that's it. Luckily I drove my POV up here so I'm fine. -
Day 2 videos, videos, videos and more videos.
Loooong boring day.
Note for anyone that comes to orientation broke. Pizza Hut has a buffet. Less than $10 for all you can eat and a drink. -
Day 3.
Covered company policy and paperwork.TCOLLIER Thanks this. -
Day 4. Got our swag and stuff we will need in day to day work. Sent for hair follicle drug test and home for the weekend. Waiting for a call from the trainer now.
If no one is reading this or even cares this will be my last post on the subject.YosemiteSam Thanks this. -
I'm reading it, Cypress gets a bad rap on here because of their "older" equipment, some of the new generation of drivers don't feel they should be subjected to driving a FLD120, so instead of hearing the facts, they just hate on Cypress because of some of the older equipment they have rolling. I think a positive perspective, if that's what you get from Cypress, would be welcomed on this board and maybe some guys that are having a hard time finding work in Florida might actually pick up the phone and give them call.

All positive so far. Trucks are older but I've yet to see any FLD's mostly internationals and Pete's.
I've been at the abilene terminal and the way Sheri the terminal manager conducts business has been very impressive. We were able to see her in action in real situations through out the week. And I've got to say after dealing with some if the dispatchers I've had in the past she is a breath of fresh air.
I have to admit I wasn't really excited about going to cypress but due to my lack of OTR in the last 3 years my first 2 choices passed on me.
I've had my CDL for nearly 20 years but I will have to ride with a trainer. At home this weekend waiting to hear from a trainer to schedule us meeting up. -
Drifter, I'm starting school in April at FCCT in Jacksonvile, FL and have been looking at companies with strong operations here. I talked with the HR lady here at a open house. Looking forward to hearing about your adventure.

I think most of the FLD's are in Florida. CCJR76, I have a friend who just started working with Rinaudo about a month back, his name's Jim, goes by "blacksheep" on the radio. If you happen to meet him tell him "flip flop" said hello.
