CCJR76,
I'm an hour north of Tampa. I lived in Jax from 05 to 11. No more wife or kids or dog or house or restriction or reasons to be home on weekends... so plans are to get a travel trailer or 5th wheel camper to live in and locate close to whatever truck terminal I may eventually work/base out of, so my current location isn't going to be an issue. Just would prefer to have a home base that's in nice warm Florida for the occasional off time.
If I might ask, I'm looking at one of the Florida State Schools (Mid Florida Tech, Florida State College, Bradford Union Tech) as they are lower cost and stress 320 hrs training and good in truck 1 on 1 time. Any thoughts or suggestions good or bad on these?
Thx
GB

O ok..yeah that was what I looked for when I finished school was somebody in my area don't have to worry about finding a safe place to store there truck, but they'll hire you...they say the 150 but they'll take you if you're in Florida, we got a few drivers that live in the Miami/fort Lauderdale area..
I'm not sure on that school, I went to national truck training out in green cove springs it's a 3 wk hands on course, the classroom stuff is online and done at home..was good enough for me. But those tech classes are smaller and more hands on from what I've heard. We had 18 in our class..essentially they're all the same, they just teach enough basics to pass the test...lol -
Those are both great schools,
but green cove would be my first choice.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I graduated from mid Florida tech and can say you definitely get your moneys worth. The instructors are all ex independent drivers and it shows, they are very meticulous with their equipment and teaching style. It explains why their road equipment is all owner op spec and in tip top shape always! I believe all of the state/county tech programs use the same curriculum so you can't go wrong with any of them and I highly recommend them over a private 2-3 week school.

I'm currently looking at Cypress out of Abilene, I live in Belton. I've just read some of your comments on this thread. It sounds like you're pretty pleased with them. I understand that everyone has their own opinions about a company. I have some flatbed experience from Airgas, palletized loads of compressed gas cylinders. I understand the training to be mostly on the job as opposed to a trainer facility. Is that correct ? Trucks aren't "real" new are they ? How about Hazmat ? Last question...living near the I-35 corridor, how does that impact your home time, during the week and on weekends ? Thanks for the info. Be safe.
