Anybody tell me the difference, other than more liters, between a 13 and a 16 2009-2011 780 with I-Shift. How much more fuel will the D-16 burn as opposed to the 13. Any known severe problems in ether. Thanks for all opinions and facts. I am looking to buy a 780 with one of these engine/tran. packages.

I talked to a guy this morning. He's been driving the D16 with a rated 600 hp and ishift for the past couple years. He told me he averages 8 mpg hauling an average of 25k lb loads running from Vancouver B.C. to L.A. and back.
He also said he just ordered a new Volvo with the D13 rated at 450 hp and ishift which is what I drive. I run heavy cargo on the average of 45k lbs between Eugene, OR and L.A. and back. My fuel mileage is around 7 mpg now. Could probably do a little better if I dialed it back to 55 on the I-5, I usually run at 60. -
Just a thought. I've looked at new Volvo's . Not a single D-16. ISX or D-13. Also talked to few guys who have or had D-16. Not a happy bunch.

totally different engine
D16 is made for up to 850 HP (in future), now 750 HP
all parts are very tought so very expencive. it is really expencive toy. So if I need 500-600 HP I'd choose ISX, 400-500 HP - D13, 360-420 HP -D11 -
The company I run for had some D-16s in the fleet and didn't have a good time. For one, it is roughly 1,500 lbs heavier (seriously nose heavy) than the D13 so scaling heavy loads with more than a quarter tank wasn't fun. There were also a LOT of injector problems, electrical, etc. The extra maint. alone on them is disqualifying in my book. The D13 and I-shift combo should give you a lot more trouble-free miles down the road.

Thanks! I would think you would burn more fuel in that 16. What you think?

The D16 would burn more at idle, but actually could be more efficient in terrain... provided it runs like it's supposed to. And that's where you problem lies.

Is the D16 with none of the emission crap any good?
I know guys that run them and only had problems till they free flow exhausts and bigger intake filters.
I can get a low mileage (250k) unit with the heavy haul set up I'm looking for at a good price. -
Google d16 engine problems. That engine probably has the most complaints. Which is amazing compared to how little their volume of sales are compared to cat, Cummins, and Detroit
