10uM in size and larger.
This is a big reason their trying to get rid of ZDDP and replace with things like boron, moly, etc... And actually the boron and moly are far more stable additives under high heat too ...
So, on CK-4 oils , the 5-30, 10-30 oils have lower ZDDP generally than 15w-40.
This is actually good.
Generally, using a 15w-40 in a DPF truck will shorten the needed maintenance interval for ash cleanings........ 30wt oils lessen maintenance requirements on the DPF.
It's advised to use the 30wt CK-4 (And FA-4) oils as they yield as good protection and better fuel mileage, better winter starting , etc .... If you need higher heat protection in summer, consider synthetic or synthetic blend.Last edited: Dec 29, 2017
shatteredsquare and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
Odds are, a dropped liner, and you will have to pry the piston out. Common issue on Detroits. Did you have the oil changed within the past 2000 miles? There is a procedure to change the oil, if you do not do it correctly the results are devastating.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
What oil should we be using in these d13s? I am running mobile delvac elite...synthetic blend. I stopped using Lucas about 2yrs ago. Used to augment the oil with that stuff. Oil changes happen every 30k miles with chassis lube in between.

Is the truck was making vibration like sacking around 50 when you have this problem? -
Holy metallic oxide ash buildup in DPF will result in frequently plugged filters. SMH.
Your VOLVO D13 came factory filled with 10-30 oil. I suggest using 10-30 semi synthetic or 5-30 full synthetic.
Oil temps on modern D13s are 240-250° generally.
