Op you being in dallas the chances to land a local gig with an LTL company are much higher, try Saia, Old Dominion, Estes, Averitt, Southeastern, U.S road, Central and AAA Cooper.

    Good luck

Wow, wow wow guys! You all are are AMAZING! Thank you all so much for your time and knowledge! A bit about me... So, I originally came to CDL school because, A I needed a job, and B I already own an enclosed 43' car trailer with a DRW F350 that I was recently informed that I need a CDL from my friend. I use it for hauling my wife and my drag race cars to the track and recently for our move from washington state. I'm able to back it up fairly well already and I've done much better than everyone on the simulator so far. How that translates to real life has yet to be seen. I've also owned a 53' wedge trailer when I thought I was going to do some car hauling. (that didn't last long) but I did drag it around a little bit. Holy smokes that thing was long. I would like to eventually do hotshot driving if things go that direction, I'm pretty open at this point... more open than I'd like, but I do know that I dont want to go OTR. we just moved to texas and my wife and I are newlyweds.... she has shown interest in driving the country with me, but having to find someone to watch the house and dogs seems unreasonable at this time. Chinatown, you are amazing! Thank you for the job leads, I'm going to have to map some of these places as I'm an hour southwest of dallas in Kemp area.....

That's right; and also, apply even if you don't think you qualify for those companies. You may be surprised when you're offered a job. Even R&L Carriers is hiring new cdl grads to run teams now.

When you're ready to hit the road doing long haul & want to take the wife and dogs with you, let us know. Those jobs are out there.

Wow, opportunity in Dallas for rookies! Not familiar with Labatt, but, doesn't matter, food delivery is a TOUGH job period, but, I can't imagine how miserable it is doing it in the Texas heat! Refrigerated trailers are slippery surfaces.

We have food services up in Chi, Gordon's, Cisco...generally, you start out working nights & weekends for not a lot of money. It's a lot of physical work 2-wheeling food in and out, carrying down kitchen stairs to the cellar, usually dimly lit, narrow, greasy stairs...surly restaurant management and chefs. Not a bad place to start, but, long-term, not a job you "grow old" with. Usually after 10 or 15 years, you have worn yourself out.

I'd much rather smell garbage...well, no, I'd much rather do what I do, but, given the choices, garbage isn't going away, and, can work your way up.

Can you get on with UPS or FedEx? You might have to start out in a package van, that is work too...doesn't look like it would be, but, after you go up and down the steps of a package van, walk between van and buildings, up and down stairs, lifting packages all day, you've walked a few miles, done dozens of stairs, as fast as you can, your beat. You get a good appreciation for sitting behind the wheel and just holding it.

LTL can be fun, if your bumping docks all day. Different story when you have to do inside pickups and deliveries, get things on and off with a manual pallet jack, lift gate, 2 wheeler. It's not bad, but, is physical. If you aren't doing the LTL side, your doing linehaul. That is almost exclusively over-night work, especially if you are home daily. Driving at night is a lot different than being a solar trucker.

If it is teams, then, it is OTR. I sure hope they aren't putting 2 rookies in the same truck to drive team!!!

WOW, that is scary! Remind me to stay far, far, FAR away from Love's tankers, on the road or in the station! And, no more buying fuel there...I have buddies that del fuel. Rookie mistakes are deadly...but, dropping the wrong fuel into the wrong tank...it happens! Keep your receipts!

Nice gig!!! So, figure it's 4 hrs one way, very do-able drive. Probably by the time you do pre/post trip, drop & hook, drive, fuel, etc, your no more than 50 hours a week. Not so great hourly pay, but, it's a start and likely a super-easy job. And, if that KW is what your driving, nice rig!

It's OTR...so, not home nightly, and, you won't get $0.70 a mile to start, not as a rookie, but, something you can look forward to. UPS Freight is a company you can grow old with.
