so i got a second chance at trucking and went down to shippensburg pa. so Monday morning was first day of orientation. paper work up the wazoo. then came time for the physical passed everything but this duck walk thing where you have to squat down as low as you can and walk 6 feet with out putting a knee down or using your hands, i failed and was sent packing,,, now I'm really bummed, and no I'm not going to rag on or mention the company it was not their fault i failed their test.

OK the woe is me rant is over, life goes on. ( i hope )

Is there a reason for a "duck walk?":biggrin_25511:

generally it's considered the fashionable thing to do when crawling under your trailer to check the axles, brakes, etc.

I'm so short I regularly just duck and walk under the trailer to get to the other side!...Now my 6'8" friend has real problems,. even duck walking he's shaped like Quasimodo under there!...Sorry to read about this, you'll find another company and get thru it!

Maybe I shouldn't get serious here--BUT--what in the blue blazes does this have anything to do with driving ability????
I would play hell with that--I have had 5 surgeries between both my knees(was a catcher in another life--thru AA ball--not to mention jumping out of perfectly good airplanes--for no apparent reason--ok Uncle Sam made me LOL)
BUT--I have driven(not counting growing up in a truckin family!)for over 30years--do long haul LTL--handle freight 7out of 10 days--and still do the majority of my service work--what is the point in putting someone through this?
Besides I am sure whatever convaluted reasoning they have--where they think you would have to do something like this--any good physical trainer would chow--lifting--moving whatever--in this position is a recipe for disaster!
Would love to know this answer??
    Just my $.02!!

Well that must be a company thing. Find someone else to work for.
That "duck walk" is not a federal requirement to pass a DOT physical.

Has nothing to do with a DOT physical, it's a company qualifier, and likely shows people with bad knees and backs and saves the company from workers comp claims. Total and USX requires it - hell, I'm 47, 5'7" and 295 and had no issues..

Are you sure it was for a job and not the military? The last time I did a duck walk was when I joined the army.
