The idea of hiring on with a "starter" company only to begin immediately to look for the next company just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe it's my age (56), I dunno! Some of the so-called "training companies" out there have pretty good track records with respect to weathering economic storms, adapting to changes, safety, re-tooling to create opportunity for growth, etc. Which carriers are worth starting with and staying with?![]()
Dancin' with the one what brung ya! Starter companies worth staying with?

Many problems today are the product of the poor economy. Also I'm not much in believing the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
So do what's right for you and I too plan on making Roehl work out for me. I'm stubborn and hate quitting.
BTW Who are you with and for how long OldNewb?JustSonny Thanks this. -

BTW one of my instructors was a Werner driver for 10 years I think. My god he was funny. I told him about the complaints here and he said "Just get in the ##### truck and drive! That's the job."
People find good in any company. If happy stay.JustSonny Thanks this. -
Many LTL companies are hiring inexperienced drivers - all jobs worth staying at. One new driver rode with me on line-haul last week and he was 22 with a new CDL and no experience so it does happen - he'll be good too.

That being said, if I were going to hire on with a company that I thought I might want to stay with it would probably be Schneider. They have a lot of different types of jobs to pick from if you should get tired of what you're doing. You can go OTR, Regional, Teams,Local in some areas, or tanker if you choose to. They have a large freight base and a lot of operating centers if you want a place to park or get the truck serviced.
That's just my two cents and you'll always have naysayers know matter who you choose. I was watching CNN the other day and they said that there are 18 million trucks on the road today. We are just getting a small sampling of opinions here, some good and some bad, you know what they say about opinions. Although it is a great place to get some good info on trucking it wouldn't hurt to get out and talk to some drivers at the company you are considering.
I've been researching quite a while now and the three companies that appealed to me were Millis, Watkins Shepard, and Schneider not necessarily in that order.
Good luck with who ever you end up choosing.

Your plans will change as you go. Plan for this, then change for that. Have a back-up plan ALWAYS. Strange business, trucking........
JustSonny Thanks this.
