I originally signed a contract with a company saying I would pay them X amount for training if I leave early, before a year. During my training however I had a instructor that was texting non stop, running off the road a lot, and watching movies with his phone proped up on the air valves. We were teaming and I was losing sleep while he was doing all of this because I could feel the rumble strips and feel him swerving all the time. I took a video of this and reported it to the company's safety department and decided to leave the company because of this. Since I still got my cdl they sent me a letter in the mail saying I owe them X amount. I'm trying to get into contact with their training department about the issue now. Do you guys think someone should have to pay for dangerous training?

You should have received another trainer. It sucks you had a crappy trainer but a contract is a contract, you're still obligated. You might have a case if he was literally the only trainer the company had
finbyrd, TripleSix, Toomanybikes and 1 other person Thank this. -
Why did you leave prime? All you had to do was get another trainer.. if you don't want to pay it go back I'm sure they will let you..

Too late now; you already left the company.
You probably owe them money, but put that on the back burner and find a new job. Deal with the debt when you can. -
Trainer was the issue, not the company.
If he hits the rumble strip with regularity, that'd scare me a lot too. Heck, I feel stressed if I approach the edge of the lane. Leaving it is a disaster, for me.
Next time, keep a level head. Never change a situation in a way that does not benefit yourself, unless you want to be nice to someone.DMAX66 Thanks this. -
Chinatown said it better then I could have. Good Luck.

Aye! Good luck....
There are a lot of terrible trainers out there in every occupation. But, I agree with Chinatown a contract is a contract.
It doesn't matter what other people would have done in the situation, but quitting a bad work situation is usually a last resort.
Even getting out at the next terminal or stop and refusing to drive with someone that is dangerous is a better option.Sneakerfix Thanks this. -

Even though if you was to take legal action, I think you would lose even with the proof, because you had a contract and probably the judge would of said you should just of just gotten another trainer.
