I am a student at CCCTI in Hudson NC.
On Wednesday we had a recruiter from Danny Herman Trucking give his speech to our class.

They have an incentive scale, you start at 18 cents a mile for team drivers, the more you drive, the more you make.
By the way they are hiring only team drivers, no single drivers.

Basically, if you can make 5000 miles a week you will make 24 cents a mile.

Does anybody have the scoop on Danny Herman Trucking?

    Thanks,
    Signed,
    A. Rookie

not sure about danny h--but that pay rate is embarresing--how could a recruter even say that with a straight face
i made more than that as a single--today i saw a place for 55cpm for teams--unless that isnt a split---but if you have to split that pay---ouch

well i just went to their website, they DO HIRE solo drivers, maybe for now there isn't any need for solo's....that being said, you can make up to 21¢ per mile, the rest are "safety bonuses" you can earn, but you had better hope your co-driver doesn't have any accidents, nor you too.

it IS low pay scale for a team, but, you can at least get some experience then either look else where's or go solo with them for even higher pay.

i'd just look at it like this, suppose no other trucking company goes to your school, or suppose no one else wants to hire you, right about then, Danny Herman is gonna look mighty appealing to you.......

at least get an application filled out, you really have nothing to lose.

I worked for a floral carrier that payed similar to what DHT does. We drove team and had multiple drops. Usually anywhere between 30-50 stops done over a weeks time period. Not only do you get paid per mile which was low, but you got paid but the drop. Turned out to actually be one of the highest paying jobs. Maybe ask the recruiter a little more and see if there are other forms of pay. If not, then yes that is extremely low pay.

I'm guessing that 18c a mile is each, so that's like 36c a mile for the team. Not too bad for starting, I guess. Werner is lower than that for starting. Unless it really is 18 cents a mile and u are only getting 9 cents each, and at that point I'd suggest moving to central america and driving a truck.

I don't have any input on DHT but the school you are attending is a good one. There will be more recruiters coming around..

    A whole $.18 a mile????
    :biggrin_2555::biggrin_25521::biggrin_2559:

I made $.18 way back in about 1979 or 80!
    Are they freaking serious????
This is why teams are getting bent and they think 1/2 pay per mile is a good thing!
a mile is a mile! So why would you think 1/2 of the given rate is fair?
    What's with this split crap?
No wonder truckers are considered stupid! They fall for this crap and think they're getting a great deal getting half of the rate just because they are a team!
I do hope your class laughed his arse out of the room. I know I would have!

There is NO way that I'd push the brake knob in knowing I'm ONLY going to get $.18 for the miles I'm about to drive!
Can you NOT see who is going to make money on the miles you're about to drive? It isn't you at HALF pay! Even you married couples are getting bent! So what if you "pool" your earnings!

If you were in separate trucks would you take that kind of pay?
If you just said yes then my "stupid" remark stays!
1/2 pay is nothing but a slap in the face to a driver!

    That's the problem.
People agree to truck for those kinds of pitiful wages.
Then they go and lease-purchase a rig.
All of which helps to bring down the rates/wages for everyone because you have to compete against these folks in the marketplace.

That's why things will never ever get better in this biz.
Too many people willing/happy to work for peanuts.

I know but you know as well as I do and most of the "experienced" members someone will jump in here and DEFEND this crap! I have a dime to a dount it'll happen! You have it right! They take this stuff and these BFI's say "hey a sucker" and then they do this across the board!

I remember about 7 years ago, A nice W900 was pulling a Schenider trailer and a driver came on the CB and asked the driver how much Pumpkin was paying and this female driver came on and said OH we're getting 78cpm and the owner asked her if she was serious and she came back with "yes, we've paid off the truck and it's no big deal what we get as long as everything got paid as the house and car were also paid off."
Man you should have heard the crap piled on her and her huisband for that remark!
The first driver told her that's why everyone couldn't get a good lease because of idiots like her taking crap wages like that!

That couple actually tried to defend themselves! It got brutal there for a while all the other O/O's jumping on their case for taking that below standard wage! They had to get off the road and park till the BS faded out!
But these guys are taking these rates and bringing the rates down and they still sit there and cry about their pay when they signed on for those loser rates!
Stop signing or hiring on with these BFI's and when their sheets hit the red they'll probably figure out whats happening! But keep taking these embarrassing amounts of pay and while you can't make your bills at home you KNOW who will, and you'll be happy they live with no worries as you're spreading that peanut butter on those crusty pieces of bread with no jelly watching them tow your car away and maybe putting that foreclosure sign in your front yard!
Freight rates DID NOT take the dive that these BFI's say they did! Look them up. Call those broker boards, call a broker or look them up! Yes some areas of trucking took a hit such as flatbeds and some dry but on average it wasn't as bad as to drop pay down to less than $.35 a mile and nowhere close to that pathetic $.18! Go look at that owners home, car and toys and then take that embarrassing pay! And do you think the higher up's at Danny Herman will let you see their tax reports for the past 2 years and this one coming? ROFLMFAO!
