My truck doesn't have the road relay either. I'm guessing because there is really no place to put it. My last truck had it(we still have the truck).

N14's are great. My W9 has straight pipes with a resonator. Accel and Jake sound awesome with a nice mellow tone cruising down the road.

Not sure if the new ones will but ours tend to slobber a little out of the blowby pipe. I won't mention the company but I have a catch can that traps the oil and lets it breathe. I drain it every oil change. Helps keep the under carriage clean.

I prefer Cats but I love the way a N14 sounds at start up and idle on a cold morning. It's what a truck is supposed to sound like.

Yeah Danny I'm in the same jam you're in and looking to go the same exact route. A couple of dealers in NC has some Cornados in stock ready to roll for a reasonable price. I didn't want to deal with Fitzs because of the wait.

They had a couple with 6NZ's !! If I didn't have to pay the bills and the fuel I wouldn't have anything but a CAT either. BTW, at Harrison's a 6NZ adds $15,000 to the price tag vs. 12.7 Detroit.

    Very nice.

How much will you be able to scale (Legal loads) with that set up and your step trailer?

Reason I ask is that I'm considering buying one of the Coronado gliders my carrier has, but his has the 12.7 Detroit and is pulling an RGN. I keep asking if he could get his driver to scale just the truck,.. 4 months I've been asking and still no scale.

I have a little egg on my face, truth is I have not weighed it or bothered to ask. Think my 53' combo stepdeck is 12,800#, last truck was 21,000# full of fuel with roof A/C, generator, sideboxes full of tarps and jive. I'm starting a dedicated gig the 13th hauling 6,000# one way and deadheading back though, so if that works out it ain't gonna matter much. I will post when I know though.

For the record, I have nothing against the 12.7 Detroit. I just have no experience with it, I know a few things about Cummins and knew the N14 would serve me well.

For conversation sake does anyone know if there is much difference in the weights of different engines? I wouldn't think there would be?

    N14 is a 140 pounds more than 12.7.

an n-14 cummins weighs 2770lb dry and 2890lb wet.

series 60 is 2630lb dry, could not find wet weight. but I think uses 10 gal oil same as n14 so probably 2750lb

60 Series has a smaller pan. I was driving one for quite awhile, and the shop put in too much oil, same amount as they put in the N-14s and refused to do anything about it, saying it would burn off or leak out.

It was still an inch over full on the stick 20k miles later, when I got out of it.

I'm thinking the Cummins was 44 quarts and the Detroit was 36 or 38.
