Once I get back OTR on my own soon, I want to purchase a dash cam and a video cam (hand held) for my own protection and also to document my life OTR. I may even consider doing some Youtube stuff. Does anyone have a recommendation for said products, or any input on what features I should be looking for? I am not a person who is knowledgeable with these things. Thanks

I will look. What about streaming video?? Does it upload to a remote server somewhere? What I am considering is what if a driver is unjustly abused by law enforcement. The video does not help if a cop can take the sim card. Sorry, but I am not a techno type person.

For my YouTube stuff when I'm bored I use a go pro. You don't need anything more than that. Almost indestructible which is nice.

I use a cheap 70$ dash cam with 1080phd does what I need it to do. When this one dies I will be getting a new one with two cameras one to face forward one back.

If you plan on doing YouTube stuff I recommend looking for a dash am that has wifi. Makes it easier to pull video to your phone then upload.

I use an old iPhone with the OsmAndDVR app as a dedicated dashcam. It has the shock sensor to auto save clips and you can manually touch the screen to save clips and keep them from deleting as it loops video.

I also have a go pro hero2 with a wifi backpack I use with the go pro app. It doesn't do looping video or it would be my dedicated dashcam. Hero3 and newer all do looping video and have wifi built in.

I've looked at the cobra wifi dashcam. Don't own one. There are also some Chinese wifi dashcams out there.

Regardless of model I recommend mounting them where they will be in the shade such as back from the window a bit if possible. As an example I had one mounted under the cb tray on a T660. Heat from direct sunlight will overheat and shutdown all cameras I've ever used and can damage the camera.
