Not sure what this trooper was doing, but he wont do it anymore.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) shared dash cam video from a trooper’s rear-end crash with big rig last week.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, December 15, on I-70 near downtown Columbus, Ohio.

Twenty-five year old Trooper Jarid Fitzpatrick was operating an OSHP cruiser in the westbound lanes of the interstate when he crashed into the rear of a semi truck driven by 58 year old Ohio-based driver Thomas Ervin.

Fitzpatrick survived with serious injuries. Ervin wasn’t hurt.

OSHP later said that they believed that the truck’s rear impact guard helped save Fitzpatrick’s life.

In the dash cam clip, you can see Fitzpatrick approaching the rear of the truck at a high rate of speed, appearing not to slow before slamming into the trailer.

Last week, OSHP said that Fitzpatrick was not on a call when the crash occurred. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

You can view the dash cam video below.

An Ohio trooper somewhere other than the left lane or the median? I don't believe it.

So the young trooper was not on a call and driving dangerously breaking the law. On top of that, wasnt paying attention. And got himself messed up. Thats a shame. You could see that trailer stopped a long time before the crash. He was obviously looking at his phone or something up until last minute when he did the panic swerve. Good thing it wasnt a small car and kill the occupants.

If that was the case, they wouldnt have said "trooper was not on a call". The trooper was driving like a young punk with a badge. Video evidence included

Regardless of what the trooper was or wasn't doing, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.

Surprised they released that footage. No other excuse except not paying attention.

I guess I always thought cops had inward facing cams. Maybe not every branch or maybe they just didn’t want to comment on it? Either way hope dude pulls thru that was gnarly.
