To those saying the dash cam might "hang you" -- in the vast majority of those cases you'd already be hung just by virtue of being a commercial driver.
I agree. Heck I look at the ice sheet video I posted in this thread and I think "#### I was kinda riding that bobtail's ###." But just 2 months ago when it happened, I was thinking my following distance was pretty good...

Are you sure she wasn't texting or on the phone? That's usually how they drive. And they cant see a bright yellow fire truck with flashinv lights and sirens, let alone a normal 18 wheeler.... sad.

It's additional insurance and it's under your control. It's piece of mind if something goes wrong. I have one that has a wide angle and a zoom lens, two lenses built into one unit. Zoom lens captures a plate number and wide angle captures everything up front including what is in my blind spot mirrors. I can turn the volume on - I don't. I can turn either camera towards the inside of the cab if I wanted. I don't.
The way I look at it, I may never actually need it. It might be $160 spent towards nothing but that one time when someone doesn't something stupid or aggressive it may just save my ###. Plus, outside of an accident or other type of driving event, it captures cool stuff on the road that I personally like to look at later. I've used it to record and later view storms and crazy weather events, cool places that I wouldn't otherwise see such as driving under the earth at Springfield Underground, etc. It's priceless to me.
If I was on the fence I would just go for it and buy it. -
Here goes some compiled video I put together with some music. It's something I like to do on my spare time.
