    This depends on where you are at. If you are in a Verizon area then Sprint is allowed voice connections, but not guaranteed data connections.

    Your assumption is wrong.

    My phone is a Sprint 3G/4G device that lets me know if I have a 3G or 4G connection.

    I was testing 3G, testing BOTH Sprint 3G with a Sprint 3G dedicated device in a Sprint 3G area and then tested Verizon 3G with a Verizon 3G dedicated device in a Verizon 3G area (which was the same area).

    Before I got Verizon Data, I had Sprint, and only in certain areas did I get Sprint 3G much faster than I tested above. Most of the time it was slower.
    ( From MSNBC Science and Technology dated 2008 ) A similar article from 2002 boasted "Network" Speeds up to "144kbs".

    Your orginal statement did not offer any insight... so a reader would have to "assume"....

    I kinda figured (assumed) that the LON and LAT would suffice......We all know what happens when we ASSUME....

    Still doesn't matter.

    You may have full signals to the tower on both devices, but who knows how far that tower is from the carrier's backhaul connection, how many other users are connected to a given tower, or how each carrier shapes its bandwidth to the testing server.

    The only way to accurately test 3G or 4G speed would be to do the test in multiple locations many times and get an average.

    I did that.
    The difference in speeds over "multiple locations" still indicates to me that there is a LARGE difference between Sprint 3G and Verizon 3G, with the exceptions of one or two areas: Northern New Jersey and San Francisco, where I consistently got Sprint 3G speeds upwards of 2-3Mbs or better.

    I am with sprint and live in the bay area. Are you telling me that my data speeds are going to drop once I hit the road? Bummer
