"the trainer only trains you (no driving)" - I hope you are correct concerning this, as I would then have nothing to worry about. Everything else about Davis Express seems about perfect for me (except for the fact that I live waaay out of the hiring area and will certainly need to relocate). Was planning on Pensacola (lived here before over a decade ago) but can move anywhere needed the most. Do you have any idea if a certain area would give me a better chance of getting hired (Starke/Jacksonville/Atlanta or is Pensacola just fine)? Will try to contact recruiter tomorrow, but if you have time would again appreciate this info or any other you feel might be necessary.
Thanks for the quick reply by the way! -
No as long as you are within the hiring area your chances are as good as anyone elses. I would contact them ASAP the January orientation classes are filling up.

Thanks for the info Dan0154.

Yes, by all means....relocate to Florida....then HOPE TO GOD you get the job; because if for some reason you don't, then you're in Florida---and according to Floridians on this site....virtually un-hireable with your experience and lack of freight.

White Dog,
I can see that you are trying to help, and I appreciate that!
I've read those warnings as well, and I think those posts are mostly talking about down "into" Florida more (Orlando, Miami, etc. [Key West obviously]), but I could certainly see Jacksonville being somewhat problematic - but not so much Pensacola and doubtfully Atlanta.
But, again, thank you for your candid advice. Though I have already considered these things, it could certainly help someone else reading it in the future. -
Dan0154,
After speaking with recruiter, you were absolutely correct about the training. Thanks a bunch!!! -
Davis, like all carriers, have had their "big one". As for the shift driving, that's only an opinion. Statistically, there are much fewer vehicles on the road between 10 pm and 6 am. Accidents caused by fatigue can happen at ANY time of the day. Sleeping during the day is easy enough, windshield solar screens, close the curtains and set the apu.
I drove for Davis express for 2.5 years and enjoyed most of it. averaging $850/wk take home and running super southeast. I too, feel that they terminate drivers far too quickly. It may be a product of the children taking over operations as both the father and grandfather drove rigs. I don't think the kids know or appreciate what drivers go through. I always treated the staff and owners with respect but 1 argument with an obnoxious driver (and a FALSE witness statement from another employee) and my job was terminated the next day. No consideration for the situation, No appeal, No cooling off period. As with any company, there are quirks and abrasive personalities. I would recommend Davis Express. -
Acts1631, Davis Express has a satellite lot in Melton Fl. Hiring out of Pcola shouldn't be a problem. There are normally Publix recycle loads staged there for local drivers coming off hometime. Also, they do store deliveries to the Publix in the pan handle and Mobile area so getting you heading home shouldn't be difficult either. Hope this helps.
Acts1631 Thanks this. -
