Needless to say I was SCARED as fucc.
Everytime I tried to press the clutch(initially) my leg and knee was shaking like a flag on a flag pole during a thunderstorm.
I was having major issues straight line backing.
Eventually i did it once I learn how to properly adjust my mirrors. Needless to say, everyone has their own way of doing something. Doing it exactly the way my instructors did had me going all out of bounds.
But regardless I got it down, atleast from that length. Apparently next week we straight line back again, but for about 3 times that length that we did today.
One thing I do not like tho, is the gear shift. Its a pain, IDK if its because old equipment(same with the clutch being so hard to push down) or cuz it was my first time, but regardless I hate it.
But yea man, atleast I finally got it down, my roommate, who is an ex CDL holder(let it expire) was helping me alot and by my 5th or 6th time I was doing it by myself with really no supervision, and doing it pretty "perfectly"
Day 4 of academy. Passed straight line backing evaluation. Pre trip time

One thing I didnt like though, the instructors, especially one of them is an ###. Literally made one dude in my class today hop in his car and drive off the range cuz of yelling and screaming at him for not doing it right the first time.
At the end of the day, I almost hit one of the instructors lol. Apparently when we park the tractors, it has to be at an exact line, not around it, not in the general vicinity, but exact, straight imaginary line. To do this, the instructor gets in front of the truck and puts his hand on the hood like hes superman or some ####. Needless to say, for all instructors out there, its not a wise idea to stand in front of a truck(with an attitude at that) driven by a 21 year old rookie driver whos foot can accidently slip off the clutch at any time.Starboyjim, uncleal13 and Redbeard93 Thank this. -
Lol I remember my first time straight line backing, it was pretty hard for me too but got better at it later on. First time I pressed the cluth, my knee was shaking a lot too. I was so nervous lol. All my instructors were pretty nice when I went to the academy.

My schools equipment had it's issues, but their VNL's could back all day long as long as you didn't move that wheel!

Leg shaking might be muscle fatique or effects of too much chemical dump into the blood stream.
Instructors are supposed to seek out your weaknesses and either force you to overcome them or eliminate you from the big road before you kill someone on the big road. Anyone who leaves like that probably will not be suited.
My instructors were monsters but in very rare situations when life is in the line Ive heard their voices as if they were still in that right hand seat yelling at me for something stupid. One in particular must have taught God to build mountains for him to drive over.
If a bit of backing or clutch work gets you stressed now, grasshopper, your journey has just begun.
He he he.JReding, Starboyjim, firemedic2816 and 1 other person Thank this.
