Brings back lotsa memories for me too. Glad I had a good trainer with my first carrier. Still haven't been over the GW, don't care if I ever do it. Good luck to you as time goes on. It really does get easier. Oh yeah, other drivers may be watching, but they have all been there too.

What a thrilling to read posting of your real life experience with the new job. Your writing skills put me in the seat riding shot gun and that "sup" comment had me standing next to you watching the guy gulping the kool aid. Thank you for sharing!

hahaha, i, too am a rookie and reading the op made me feel much better because it is EXACTLY what i went through in my first couple of months. every day will make you more confident behind the wheel and getting to your destinations. i came out of the gate as an owner/operator, so i had to learn fast. on the second load i ever hauled, i was caught in minneapolis during rush hour !!!!! i remember a veteran driver in the next lane looking at me like he knew i was a rookie and crapping myself....and he was right! stick to it, this will be stuff you can laugh about in a month or two.

Invest in a truck stop guide and a piece of chalk. Mark the hole on your trailer where you want your tandems to be. It's a lot easier then getting out of the truck five or six times.

Good writing. But please rethink the Bear Grylls move. Try yellow snow first, or truck stop coffee, naw,on second thought stick with the pee....lol.

Great writing, and it seemed to sum up a lot of my thoughts during my first week solo. It must be an initiation thing, but my first solo week with Schneider in 2005, started: Atlanta - Charlotte - Wilkes-Barre, PA - North Bergen, NJ - Boston, MA - Harrisburg, PA. I think I remember every bump of that trip and how happy I was to head back south. I remember how exhausted I was, mentally, after my first excursion across the GW and the Cross-Bronx. Being a southern boy, that was also the first time I drove in snow.
