Just as an FYI, you can run the Cheasapeake Bay bridge if the trailer is loaded as it runs lower. But if you are empty the trailer sits higher as sets off the over height sensors before the bridge/tunnel. You'd have to dump the air bags to deadhead or have a really light load through there.

As far as parking goes, there are some truck stops here and there, there definitely is a rest area at the Maryland/VA border that you can park at. Other than that there isn't much parking on that stretch but you can find some.

I have been over the Chesapeak Bay Bridge tunnel hudreds of times
running fish into NYC from the outerbanks of NC
there is no problem running a 13' 6" trl over that

not many truckstops on 13 but a lot of pull off areas
and convience stores with parking for a few trucks
Perdue boys need restrooms too :biggrin_255:

I'm an O/O out of the Norfolk yard and the reason the Qualcomm sends you 2 hours out of your way is the bridge tunnel toll $35.00. You do save 100 miles and avoid the DC BALT traffic.

If you ever want to know about running as an O/O pm me there are options other than choice. You can get in with a small investment and make a decent living without all the grief.

Only thing that I'm saying is if you are EMPTY schneider tractor trailers do set off the over height sensors in any 13'6" tunnel in the Norfolk area. If you are running loaded the combo sits lower and doesn't set off the sensors. We probably would still fit, just saying that if you do try to go through with an empty trailer there will be flashing over height sensors going off if you are empty.

Shoot, first preventable accident today. My trailer door hit the trailer's door beside me. Four hinges bent and pulled door away from my trailer, the other door got banged up as well. Sigh, feel like an idiot. Now here i sit at the customer waiting to see what SEM says. Dang it!

That sucks to hear man... I hate getting stuck at customers where they have the lanes so close together that your door can snag the one beside you. Gotta watch a lot of those new TA14XXXX trailers especially, if you've got the doors open sometimes the "chain" (well, its just 2 chain links on the new ones) will jump off the hook and the door can flop around.

I had a situation similar to you today, but it was with a roof support and not another truck. It was at some random customer in NJ that obviously hardly ever hard a 53' deliver to them, he kept looking at me wondering why I was wiggling back and fourth trying to get out of the covered dock, I had to move the trailer over so the door wouldn't snag on the support on the way out. Pain in the butt.
