Is it possible to make money if I lease/purchase daycabs and haul intermodal regionally?

Without details how could anyone possibly answer? Rates? Expenses? Your own personal financial situation - stable or shaky? Generally lease purchase arrangements offered up by trucking companies are set up to favor and profit them, not you. You'd be a useful individual to shovel off pesky employee expenses onto. So even if your personal financial situation is rock solid you will soon discover the feeling of a rat running in a wheel under a lease purchase contract. If you're in Chicago area that would be a good place to make decent money hauling cans but taking that statement and running with it, at whatever you're looking at now is NOT a sure thing.

I would think that for regional you would need a sleeper...

And in my opinion, a sleeper is always better. What if you run over your hours somewhere? What if local work doesn't work out? What if you do local work and find that you make more money staying out and sleeping at your destination for an early load/ unload. What if you find something that pays really well that requires you to be out 2 nights a week?

Unless you are going to do something like a local p&d driver, and KNOW that you are going to make a lot of $$$, (and even then, what if it falls through?) a sleeper just gives you so much more flexibility, and is so much more roomy and comfortable...

Paid for trucks are the best if you can afford it. Other options, finance. Reason being, after the fuel taken out, you still have repair bills to worry about.

All depends if you can get onto a good company. Lots of junky low pay intermodal companies out there.

Where are you located? Send me a PM (personal message) so I see it (I don't check the forum often). I will be happy to offer some insight. I run some intermodal.
