My dd15 engine was eating about 5 gallons of oil per oil change and i decided to do an overhaul. Unlucky 50.000 miles after the engine seized due to main bearings getting stuck. Shop wont pay for the repairs and i dont want to put up with another DD15 since they are so bad. ( the cause they suspect is bad crankshaft, very common problem)
What i want to do is to install a factory reman D60 instead.
Has anyone done that, is it worth, how much did it cost and who does it?
DD15 engine replaced with D60

Do a google for dd15 problems.
I'm not sure a d60 would work. With all the computer sensors and emissions components and what not.
You might be buying a can of worms that could cost more then what you've got.
Since the engine already quit at only 50k miles. I'd say mechanic error. Not micing the crank and installing the right sized bearings.
The crankshaft story might be just that. A BS excuse to get out of warranty work.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I think the problems from the oil pan where the pick up is. Theres some plastic type block there. My mechanic has 2 opened up because of that, right out of warrenty.

If they sell Cascadia gliders, they should have harnesses and other stuff needed to install a pre emission Detroit, however it won't be legal from the EPA standpoint and if you get caught, you might face some serious fines. "If caught"
snowwy Thanks this. -
Forgot to mention another thing with the crank story.
If your bearings spun around. I"m guessing your engine was knocking. Means the crank was slapping the piston rods. Not good for either crank or rods and both will have to be either machined to be round again. Or replaced. -
Kustomtruck in Oregon makes a kit that contains everything that you need (wire harness, tubes, hoses etc.) cost around $7500. Just find a good donor engine......
