Wondering why you cant use a deep cycle battery in trucks , those rechargeables ones , as not very good at explain myself , but those kind of batterys that use in projects like electric cars and solar stuff
but i know there more spendy then reg batterys but still , one less thing too worry about
Dead batteries after less then 10 hours sitting

Very costly. Lithium batteries would cost a small fortune for a truck. That is why they have alternators to recharge them.

Actually you could use deep cycle batteries if your system has a separator circuit. It separates the starting batteries from the system batteries. Replace the system batteries with the deep cycle and they'll last longer. I had a buddy that did this as he had all his stuff plugged in and a large capacity inverter. Later he went with an APU and he still lives happily ever after!
Remember you are NOT getting something for free with an inverter as you are finding out. Regular batteries are not designed for the constant discharges that an inverter can place on them and will kill a battery in a short time! When using an inverter with a heavy load like running a microwave and coffee pot start the truck untill the heavy load is removed. A computer and other smaller wattage equipment you can use without the truck idling but still remember to many deep discharges will start to drain the life out of those things!
This makes an APU look better doesn't it! -
I but as time goes on these inverters will get more efficient. Can you imagine what an inverter would do to the old 12 volt generator they used to hang on Detroits.

My batteries are group 31. I thought those -were- deep cycle? Seems not...oh well..

Y cat sells a deep cycle starting battery...

If my truck has 3 batteries, but room for 4, can I put 4 in there? What would the benefits be to doing this? Can I run more things before draining the battery?

Deep cycle is like the battery on your Bass Boat. That's DEEP cycle. I think the generator would take an inverter out in a heart beat! Add a fourth battery to the rack! Yes it'll give you more "time" but it darn sure wouldn't hurt. And heck get a deep cycle and when it's time for another get another! Pay the price for one with higher cranking amps also. You're paying insurance that you aren't going to kill your batteries with the inverter and that you'll start every morning! Whats cheaper? Batteries, or a jump from a shop truck which in most cases will be a "road call" and cost the same even in the parking lot or a wrecker if you can't get someone to pull around to hook to your cables. That is if you have a set!
A tip: Keep those battery clamps clean! The cleaner, the better voltage travels where it needs to go! A liter of coke a month over the whole battery box and everything in it wouldn't hurt either! -
