Yea i always tell them, either I get to watch, or you wont get my business. Its my truck and i want to learn how to work on it as well as make sure the mechanic doesn't do anything stupid.

Just do it yourself. Crawl under there and while your draining the oil and greasing it take your time to look at everything. I have caught all kinds of problems before they caused a breakdown just by giving a good look over while doing my service. Oil at Sams or Walmart $120 for 10 gal. All 4 filters at Frieghtliner $29. 2 tubes of grease $5. 12pack of Miller Lite $10. Look on my wife face when I get grease on the Frig door grabbing a cold one-Priceless. Just buy some laytex gloves at Harbor Frieght. Walmart and most any auto parts store will take your old oil for free. Most small shops will take it for thier waste oil heaters.

As far as demanding to watch while the mechanic fixes your truck thats bs. If I was the mechanic the last thing I would want is a supposed know it all who can't even change his own oil to be critiquing me.Most are on flat rate and would lose money by having you in the way and asking a hundred questions.Would you work for a company that had a camera recording you 24/7 so your dispacther who doesn't know jack about driving watching and questioning your every move? I didn't think so.
