Dealing with old man winter, a primer on winter driving.

we have a saying when riding our dirtbikes "if you're not sure just go faster" lol as funny as that sounds its usually true. that must of been fun as hell. wish there was someway to get a video of that.

Driving your truck up on the 4x4's like that will make it one heck of a lot easier to throw your iron on than trying to drive onto it.

 

I didn't read all the posts on winter driving, because I'm stuck with the winter for around 7 months of the year. I'm a Canadian driver and I hope some one added food supply to the list. All food will freeze so have some food handy that you can eat if the road is closed. You may be stuck up to 24 hours with nothing around you. Water is good even frozon, candles, or winter camping cookware, blankets, etc. And for Gods sake stay in your vehicle and don't go wondering around outside. Up here when things go bad, they go bad fast. Be safe.

 

Mr. Beast, Thank you for all of the kind words of advice, you must have been trucking for quite some time. I am a beginner, I start school in 2-3 weeks, and cannot wait. I hope to drive OTR for a while and see our great country. When I finish getting a few laps under my belt, I hope to be able to get some Ice road trucking in, in the winter time to make some good money to help out. I am planning on buying my own rig, I can do alot of the small repairs myself, in all honesty, I could rebuild it top to bottom, with the exception of the trans., but, if you want to make your money driving, I know I need to leave the bigger jobs up to someone else. I am ready for a life change, I cannot wait to start trucking.

 

If I start to bring everything every one mentions, I am going to need the trailer that I am hauling to bring all this equipment, when I have time I will go through and report every thing that has been mentioned on here. The Gentleman that started this thread pretty much listed all the basic necessities, and from there on every one added to it creating a load of material.

 

Not yet a trucker but I was in my ford driving fine on a road as soon as I hit the bridge truck slid sideways(lil creek bridge) straightens out easy enough. I can only guess the pucker factor hitting that at 80,000pds and as long as y'all are.

 

Unsure if I missed it somewhere along the way. But going to a Army Surplus and picking up a box of MREs(winter not summer packs) could be a life saver. Obviously be sure you have a water source to activate the heater for your food. After you heat up your food that heater works really shoved in-between your shirt and jacket. WARNING pour the water out of the heater bag, it's not fun to spill it on yourself and at first keep the bag off of bare skin. It can seriously burn you. Ps the winter MREs are higher in calories, which your body will need to stay warm. I think a box comes with 24meals. Field strip them prior to storage and they will take up much less room. Glad the Marines taught me a skill lol. Stay safe everyone.

 

It was asked earlier in this thread and one person mentioned something but what are the uses for dawn soap? Washing dishes I got.

 

Dawn soap also kills fleas, repels ants, cleans grease and grime from tools and hands, removes oil stains from concrete and removes soap scum.It can also be used as a lubricant to free sticky or rusty parts and makes an effective laundry pre-treater as well as degreasing all manner of wildlife soaked with oil from the latest spill.

 

Very good for washing eyeglasses, and cheaper than laundry detergent, and better IMO.
