they have been stealing wheels with tires from our yard lately around 30 to date. Which prompted the owner to hire security. Most that have been hit are the local drivers, but yesterday they hit an OTR driver which was totally messed up. It was the night the security guard took the night off
I am thinking of fabbing up some sort of device to prevent or at least slowing down these crooks. has anyone seen a wheel lock or came up with something to protect your wheels?

It's a good time to use surveilance video. They work 24/7 and you could catch them. Probably a crack head that figured out how to sell them.

I dont know about cameras the land owners are real stingy, they collect but they do not want to upgrade the lot. They took a first step with the security guard. I think it might be a gang of thieves like in Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. The police department says we arent the only yard that is having these problems.

They are some strong thieves. Them wheels aren't light in the first place. Then again, what better way to come up with some spares for the truck and trailer. NOT!

You could use a computer and a webcam sticking in the window might be a cheap way. There's all kinds of free software online to turn your webcam into a surveillence recorder.

Or you could sit out there with a shotgun loaded with rock salt. Give something to think about. Aw heck, never mind that, jsut go for the 00 buck.

Sounds like an inside job, most crack heads won't go thru that much trouble, don't have the strength and would probably sell the tools they need to do it if they had them...I'd look internally...30 says someone is comfortable and knows whats what there to me...

That's amazing, 30 wheels/tires stolen and just now hiring a security guard who takes time off. OK, here's a suggestion, camp out at the yard in the shadows with some heat and catch these &^#%^$## in the act. Fire about 6 rounds into the ground and they'll probably scoot off down the alley and never come back. BTW, if they steal tires, does your boss think they might steal freight from the trailers?

What's so %&*@ing funny about theft of tires and wheels? Let it happen to you once and it won't be so funny any more. You'll be sitting there shut down until replacements can be located and installed.
Maybe there's a way to electrify the wheels?thesvg Thanks this.
