Google glasses are just around the corner. In truck cameras are already obsolete. As matter of fact, automated trucking is on the horizon. Just watched a Youtube video of a military transport demo. Totally computer guided and driven.

Yes, but in the meantime we've got to keep those humans in line :) For a local job it wouldn't bother me too much. But for those of us living in the truck, this is something I would definitely resign over, the driver facing camera.

I was fired from Jbs after 2 years with only one log violation and no accidents. I was dialing a phone number (had headset on) and ran over a rumble strip which supposedly turned the camera on. I saw the video and you can see a line towards the bottom which shows the g force or whatever they call it that activates the camera. I actually ran over the rumble strip after putting the phone down but th e camera had however many seconds prior to what caused it to activate. Not sure how that works but I saw the video with my own eyes.

Also to Dinomite the cameras work differently depending on what truck you are in. I and one other friend both had one in Petes and they were on nearly every day. Disconnecting from a trailer would turn it on. My buddy I talk with almost everyday still with Jbs but in a t700 says a rumble strip won't activate it although he has hit a dock and it came on. You being in a 680 it also seems not to be so sensitive.

This is incredible. I didn't realize this was happening already. Regardless of whether a driver is right or wrong in these situations, do we really want to go there. Maybe I haven't been keeping up with this, but as I sit here tonight I can't believe what I'm reading.

It's always recording but is only supposed to save data if there is a critical event I think. Otherwise it records over the old data after it runs out of memory and loops back. But who really knows right? Like you say the whole idea is to get us comfortable with cameras in the truck. Then the sky's the limit on what they can do.

I don't know what the problem is with cameras in the truck. If you got run off the road WITHOUT a camera, it would be your word against a bad driver. WITH the camera, it's documented, right ? Plus, cameras are everywhere these days. In banks/ATm machines/restaurants/malls/gas stations/casinos everywhere. No one seems to complain about that, do they ? So now you can't pick your nose while driving, other than that, who cares ?

I don't mind the camera on the truck but having the camera on me while driving the truck is a problem. My buddy with Jbs got a message today saying make sure you have your seat belt on because he had it off while backing into the dock. So if for whatever reason the company wanted to get rid of a driver they can terminate him for "company policy" instead of just laying him off and letting him collect unemployment until the next gig.

I know it's the company's rules and if you don't like it you can just quit, but I believe there's a better way of going about it.
I also think it's kinda weird that if for whatever reason that camera came on and I'm just waking up and it gets a good view of my family jewels that everyone in the office I work with knows me a little better than they should, or that I could be terminated for indecent exposure. Believe me when I tell ya there's nothing indecent about these family jewels.

Oh please folks. The camera makes a good hat rack when parked, and again this things normally don't come on unless some type of g force movement. So unless you got moma in the truck checking out the air bags and seeing how long you can keep the antenna's waving. The camera is not going to come on or see what you are doing. Butttt. I did finally have the red light come on, and there was no G force movement or anything. Guess it sometimes does a quick check and see if you are driving safe, but it was 3 in the morning and no vehicles around and me wide awake. Even though I don't know how good the lighting is when it's dark. Opps let me rephrase it. The camera is always on but recording over itself until an event needs to be saved and reviewed. You also can manually cut the camera on and or save feature.

I don't drive like a maniac so really not worried about the camera's telling on me too much, but I'm sure for those who do drive like a maniac and whose load I would like to see once they open the doors from whipping that trailer around like they do. It probably would make them slow their roll a little. I think it's a plus for all. The company gets rid of bad drivers, and bad drivers become good drivers because they don't want to hear noise from management.

Colorado is a right to work state. They can fire you for no reason whatsoever, and I'm sure management has better things to do then look for reasons to fire somebody, but again I really don't know what they do up those stairs, and I don't care. As long as they keep me rolling. We are all good.

Dinomite at 3 or sometime early morning is when the camera resets. So if you set it off it stays red till the following early morning where it goes back to green. Never actually saw what it does when it resets but i think you did lol. Anyways make sure you got that seat belt on when backing into a dock it will make you a better driver
