Originally, I applied with TMC and after talking with them a few time and waiting on my application status to come back, I got a call from Maverick and they offered a better deal. Same amount of home time as TMC but with better pay. I sat down and really weighed every thing out and decided to go with Maverick (even though I'm not crazy about driving an auto). I could go to orientation now but my wife an I have already planned a vacation to see family in Texas for the first of May and the plane tickets have already been paid for so I'm going to wait and schedule orientation for when I get back. I look forward to starting flatbedding as it is something I have been wanting to do. I also have a friend who recently started at maverick about 3 or 4 weeks ago and he loves it and says that it is everything they say it is. I'm hoping that it is not one of the companies that promise you the world and give you nothing.

As a side note, before anyone flames me about the comment on the automatics, I know they have autos and that I am willfully choosing to drive for them while knowing so. And the reason I am not to keen on automatics is before I was driving at my current company, I was a mechanic/lead man in our shop. We have around 20 or 30 automatics and they were the biggest headaches. Transmissions were constantly locking in gear and you had to get out at a red light and disconnect the batteries for a minute then hook them back up. Or, you might start off at a red light and it shift out just fine and sometimes you might start off and it run through 1st and 2nd then have a 4 second delay to hit 3rd then a 5 second delay to hit 4th etc. Our autos were in Volvos so hopefully freightshaker has the auto figured out and I wont have this problem.

Thanks plenty. I look forward to the experience. It seems like most of the Maverick guys on here and pretty good guys.

Mav's autos are third or fourth generation of this transmission and do a lot better than the first generation. Problems arent as common as they used to be with these new autos. Remember we keep our fleet young :)

Yeh, you won't have your truck longer than about 2.5 years tops. And maverick is very picky about maintenance, they do their best to keep the trucks running good.

The only transmission issue I ever had was when some kind of solenoid valve went out, and it refused to go above 6th gear, but that was quickly fixed.

If you're gonna worry about something, worry about the computer that controls the engine, which I believe was programmed by someone in the Cross Eyed Computer Worker Association.

    :)

I'm guessing you are talking about the XY shifter captain. We had tons of problems with ours and 9 times out of 10 that was the problem. All of ours were in our 2007 volvos and it was the eaton push button auto. We have 10 new volvos with the I-shift and all the drivers love them. They don't jerk and you don't have to get up to 1100rpm to get it to start moving. It starts moving when you take your foot off the brake.

I can't speak for everyone, but my truck starts moving as soon as I hit the gas 99% of the time. The other 1%, it delays for about 1 second then goes. But that's pretty rare.

I was referring to the ECM. Mine has a history of telling my engine to do random things, but other drivers say they haven't had that issue, so I'm willing to bet that mine is just faulty. But Freightliner won't replace it because the #### thing starts behaving as soon as it goes into a shop lol.

I do have to say that I wish the trucks had a bit more overall power, but just about all of the big companies are castrating the engines nowadays. And it's hard to blame them with fuel being $4.00+ per gallon.

The auto shifters are great. Most of us shift them manually, and do not drive them as automatics. And, as icing on the cake for ya as to your decision...... our trucks are much faster than that other company that you mentioned....

Ya I noticed they are 65-70. I asked my friend at maverick why they were not all 70 and he said it depends on the year. I'm hoping for 70. The daycab I'm in now is supposed to be 65 but all I get it 63 and in ready to be able to at least pass swift :D

Yeah, although going at a slower speed (avg around 57-58 personally) gets much better mpg's which is what alot of us are concerned with for bonus reasons.... DOn't floor it all the time and expect to get good results on your Sunday beep.
