It's not an easy choice with so many companies hiring.

Looking as Watkins Shepard because its a ten day orientation and no time with a company trainer.

Thinking about Maverick for flatbed (considered TMC for a moment but...) decided not to pursue TMC because they have grooming standards like collar lenght hair etc...after being a cop for 20 years and a military man for 3 years before that...I have had about enough of being told how I must groom...just sayin!!!

Conway has come to mind recently, hearing many good things about them...and just minor complaints, but hey...you can NEVER make everyone happy.

Hearing alot of talk about Stevens lease operator...and opportunity to make "good money" not so sure I like that idea...I hear that many companies try to starve you out during the last 5 or 6 months prior to u being able to purchase the truck for a buck..

Anyhow, I appreciate any input and / or advice on these topics...thanks, Tim

With no experience i would never advise you to do a lease or O/O. Get your experience and then make a business decision based on your knowledge, needs and ability at that time. It's not just holding a steering wheel out here.

I can appreciate that, just like any other profession, it takes a while to figure things out....even with guidance.

I suggest going out with a trainer hamadown. Just so you can get a base of things to expect. Watkins & Shepard turned to work out well for AmericanTrucker, but it may not for you. Trainers teach.. (if you get a good one (no comment)). No they can't teach to every single situation you run into, but it gives you a good solid ground with most of their advice. If your worried about days out with a trainer, Roehls training isn't as long as most companies. 7-9 day orientation, 14 out with a trainer. Test out, get assigned solo. Run 1-2 loads going home and boom your on your own. (Of course you have training fleet managers for 6 weeks) but tops a month of training and your solo.

I love my choice of Roehl coming out of school. They are a great company. Some will disagree and some will agree. It will always boil down to, do you think you can honestly drive solo with only 10 days of orientation training (I know W/S is tough), or even a month? You need to be comfortable in what you feel is right for you.

Thanks Lantern, I love the way you always respond so quickly. I usually do not have a problem getting along with other people, so long as they have good sense and do not expect me to kiss thier (forgot how to spell...WTF) arse....never been good at it, guessI just dont like the aftertaste..AND even when I was a boss...never could stand it when someone tried to kiss mine. So if I got the right person perhaps I could stomach a trainer for a couple of weeks..., but why risk it if W.S. will just send me out after orientation...least my chances of pissssing someone off will be lessened...LMAO

I will agree with him you have listed some good companies so your looking toward the right direction. Alot of new people list werner, swift, yada yada. Because those are quick hire company's and they don't want to put effort into researching potential better paying companies. And thanks, I try and respond quick when I'm on here. I did alot of online support and we had a 30m - 1hr response time and mine was usually 15 minutes.

I agree about the trainer comment. My trainer was a veggie eater, didn't cuss, was very strict, and yelled at me none stop. I am the complete opposite of who my trainer was. But in order to get through it I had to put up with it. And so far, I am pretty #### happy with how things are going. Roehl has treated me right.

Lantern, you are a better man than me! It's awful difficult to spend a considerable amount of time working with someone that is so closely a direct opposite let alone living with them in a truck for an extended period of time ...U DA MAN!!
