These R the companies I am considering as I enter my final week of training.

Watkins and Shepard, KLLM and Falcon.

I was very interested in TMC because I really want to drive flatbed but they shot me down without saying why of course. My guess is a personal motor vehicle accident about 3 years ago.

I also considered Maverick but decided against because they are all automatic transmission trucks and if I decide to leave them at some point I would need a refresher since I will have no experience with manual transmission.

Watkins and Shepard has a flatbed division and so does Falcon but KLLM seems to have a decent pay rate for student drivers on regional midwest routes paying .38 cents per mile. (seems to good to be true for a newbie).

Anyhow I am considering these three so I appreciate all the good, bad and ugly about these companies...thanks, Tim

I worked for a company,,,,,,,,,,, that TMC bought out about five years ago, I lasted two months with them, They have some odd company rules. If you are dead set on a flatbed, i would really look at maverick, I think averitt would be better but i know they have certain areas they hire, not even sure if they hire students. Even if you start out on a automatic as long as they meet all the other criteria, It might be worth the time and effort. As far as tmc, MY expereince as short as it was, they had issue with my weight, tmc really like's to recruit the guys comming out of the service. Which i do understand, why they do this. BUT this was over five years ago, and things do change. Good Luck

that may be part of it, my weight...I am 6'5" and weigh 300.....just a big guy...strong but fatter than a few years ago...always worked out though..benched 540 lbs at 41 years old....but I am guessing that may have been the reason...i did offer the information on my application. No worries..they r missing out on a good employee.

Kind of stupid for a company to look at figures on paper. My 6'0 220 sounds like I would be a chubster, but I'm just a country boy built like a brick sh*thouse.

I always liked those falcon tarps, looked like sour apple candy of some sort. Anyway, if you want flatbed don't settle for vans.
