Of all the radios I have, and you know that's quite a few, my Galaxy DX-86V "10 meter super duper rig" is the one I keep going back to at present, definitely the favorite.

When you key up,there will be a voltage drop..Watts don't mean squat if not matched and ant is crap..

Get the max mod and some 2030+ in there and a lil fan blowin air on that crappy heat sync on back of both of them radios and your stroking!! Assumeing all other things(tune, coax, ends, soldering, ant position and grounding)are all good..

When I key up, the radio draws a nominal 1.7 amps and the 203P draws a nominal 10 amps. I don't notice a voltage drop with an aggregate of 11.7 amps, but I sure notice more over-the-air responses with the extra 60-80 watts. It's amazing what that little extra boost will do for CB communications. However, that's my limit. I chose not to do more, because when you get into the big-wattage amplifiers, then it takes thumb-size cables to a number of batteries to prevent that voltage dip mentioned, and they tend to mess with your engine electronics, etc.

    Slowmover1 and Timin770 Thank this.

Where are you getting the readings from..At the end of plug or inside the amp/radio as its keyed up..
What radio/amp actually gets vs at wores end should be different..Now im no tech so i cant say for sure..
I would rather go over kill with say 12 over 16 ga wire with some good soldering, keep it well fed....Seen on a scope how starvation at all can have a good bit of power output drop..

Many times i wanted a 500+ watt amp but i figured whats the point with all the extra issues, connections ect...
I got my radio tweeked some, ill be doing a 12 ga awg complete power wire upgrade(cant run full power cause of voltage drop with even a trk stop upgraded power wire)and ill be doin a custom ant bracket very soon..
If i cant talk 20+ mi and skip galore after that ill pack it in and sell all ma stuff..

8-ga is where wiring issues get “difficult”; I find 10-ga to be easy enough (terminations, connectors, fasteners).

The problem is more the length of the power harness. Safely routed. Then 8 and 6 have their place.

I like mine. I'd never go back to a 148 after using this thing.
