Hey everyone, I've been lurking around and reading intently relative to student drivers. I'm new to trucking and have it narrowed down to Central Refrigerated or CR England. I'm local to the Fontana area and I will loyally work hard in return for being treated fairly and have insurance for my kids (wife has a job and her own insurance). I am 48 and come from a restaurant family (age 6 to 30) and then the past 18 years in corporate world. My last job had me away from the house 90% of the time so I'm not to worried about that issue, we're used to that lifestyle and we'd probably be divorced if we spent any more time together.

So, I'm approved to go to both CR England and Central Refrigerated this coming Tuesday the 29th. I need to cancel one ... help push me over with real-life experience(s) and don't candy coat anything good or bad, there will be both and I appreciate all the information I can get :Transportation cost

PS - I love the new format, took some getting used to but it's nice!!

Local yard, efficient local school, only 6 month commitment to offset training class fee. The rest is basically the same looking from the outside...

My understanding is that CR England will want you to pair up w/ someone and run as a team (I could be wrong), are you wanting to do a lease? My understanding is both companies want you to sign a lease once you're done training. If these options don't sound too appealing to you then I would consider other options. If you're OK w/ doing a lease, but want to run solo, then go w/ Central.

You said in you're O/P that you want to be treated fairly. Both of these companys are horrible and you will be treated like crap. Are you and your family prepaired to have basicaly no income from you for 6 months. The reason I say that is that you will be paid barely enough for you alone to live on,till you can get away from them with a little exp. and go somewhere else. Can you afford to go to a school on your own?If you can then thats a 100 % better way to go.With a school and a CDL your option's open up a bit, like JBS,Sneider, etc.Doing that will also get you out from any type contract these other blood suckers will impose on you.You need to understand that no matter how good of a guy that you are(loyal, hard working, dependable)that these company's will have no regard for you at all.You will be lied to,cheated on money, and overall abused. They don't care one iota about you. They need someone in that seat and that's it,period.90% of new drivers fail in the first year,it's really tough.I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but you better be prepaired for this.

You will not be forced to lease by either of your choices for starters, however England does have a very high csa score compared to central and is an issue for me cause it means they are just pumping out students and not taking the time to properly train them. Pete3817 has some good points as well but you need to put your time in and move on when you can, you should keep that mindset on being treated fairly and respected period, anyone saying its not going to happen or you should expect to be abused is foolish, alot of companies are looking for solid good drivers and will respect you if you do the same. All companies have their good and bad just like any regular job field like mine now i hate it and its not getting any better so im going back into trucking with a positive attitude like i have all my past jobs. If its not to late go to a truckstop and talk to drivers of the companies you are interested in.
