I got a job at Gypsum Express and currently working local. I like the job and all but the pay is not so good at the moment. How ever they do have a regional position where I can be home every weekend. Let me just say I am 21 years and i LOVE going to the race tracks on the weekend. I am actually building a dirt modified to race. SO my question is would you pick local making $15 a hour home every night or go regional home every weekend at .36 a mile? This company seems great no complaints so far I love it here. I just want to make the most I can and live happy. What really made me think about going regional is that when i'm home from work and have nothing to do I am bored out my mind lol. I live in New York also.
Decision to make with my current company.

Financially, if you're working 40 hours/week at 15 an hour it only takes 1667 miles to match that and I'm certain you can do better with regional OTR, however, there is a lot to be said about being home every night if you have a family, etc. It really just depends where you're at on that spectrum, but if $$ is your priority, probably regional OTR is the better option. Plus, you're right, getting out there is one of the things that I love most about this job... Talk to operations and see if you can get some info about how many miles the regional position averages.

Keep in mind that many companies do not consider local and regional experience as valuable as OTR experience should you apply in the future for OTR.
Being home is great, but being too broke to enjoy your home time is no fun. Without overtime shifts available, you'd be working for about half of what a OTR driver earns in a year. -
Where are you at? How much time driving do you have? Stick it out another 6 months till you hit a year and get something that pays more.
Get a hazmat and try to get on with a fuel hauler. Fuel hauling is a trade, you can take that skill set anywhere. Many ltl companies require hazmat too. Ltl guys make low 20's an hour. -
I wanted to switch back to an account once & they told me there weren't any openings.
