Hey all,
My boss has recently handed me an opportunity rarely seen in the trucking industry. I'll be taking over the position as float truck driver next year, and since the truck that I would be driving has seen better days, he's given me the opportunity to research and spec out the truck he's going to buy for me to drive. The only restriction he's given me so far is that it either has to be a Kenworth or a Mack.
For the past 6 years working for this company, I've been driving a mid 90's Kenworth T800 with a Caterpillar C15 with an Eaton-Fuller 18. It's not the most beautiful, but it gets the job done. I like the way it runs and the interior is pretty nice. Can't complain.
That being said, Caterpillar has stopped production on engines for big trucks. I've never had the opportunity to run a truck with a different engine, so I'd like some imput on other engines.
Ultimately, I believe this "contest" comes down to two trucks; the Mack Titan and the Kenworth T800.
Any input on these trucks, specs, engines, ect would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

SS: Sounds like you have a very good boss? Few allow that privilage.
No experience with the new Titan. i believe they are a glorified Volvo. The Mack diehards are going to stone me for the comment.
Some experience with the 800's and imo they are a good truck.SilverdaleShrek Thanks this. -
T800 hands down. can,t go wrong with a kw.
That titan has been out how long now?
To each there own but mack used to be a real good truck, times have changed. You could not give me a new one now.
glorified tuperware!

I think you gotta go with the T800 I love mine. Ive lost faith in mack once Volvo bought em. I do miss the long nose on the w9 but the t800 turns tighter than my long hood

Had both KWs and MACKS , today not sure if I would want either one.
Show your Boss the new kid on the block and you can get a CAT in it

Titan is a very heavy built truck but its going to cost you more than a KW most of them are listing around $150k none of the dealers are ordering them as stock all custom ordered. Mack all the way for me you can get the MP8 set for 555hp in a titan, and reduce you wt. some over the MP10 I would rather take my chances with either of those vs a ISX or Paccar
