So I have about another 4 weeks before I get my CDL A (weekend class). I took a physical today for Roehl which is who I think I should go for starting out. They seem to be the lesser of evils with the starter mega carriers. They offered me .32cpm starting and .36cpm after 6 months....not bad I assume. Speaking with a few other drivers from my state, they say the get decent miles averaging about 2400 a week.

My problem is, Im starting to have second thoughts as I think I should be making more with the credentials I already have. I currently have a CDL B, HazMat, Tanker, Doubles Triples (pending A graduation), Passport and TWIC Card.

Im finding it hard to find a company where I can use some of these credentials as I live in Florida and am most decidedly out of the hiring area.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

The cdl b is irrelevant to anything in trucking Except expedite. If you want good pay with those credential look at FedEx custom critical or panther.

Look into other divisions such as tanker or flatbed. That is where the money is.

I understand that part, which is why im in school to obtain my A. As far as the tanker or flatbed, I would love to if I could just find a company hiring new drivers in my hiring area as I originaly posted.

Melton hires out of Florida as far as I know. I had a guy in orientation with me that lives in Florida. Probably going to be out a little longer than others tho.

Endorsements with no experience are worthless. Indeed, why would you even get them unless you needed them for a specific job you had lined up? Especially since most companies will pay for them. What a useless waste of money.

You are basically a newbie driver. Be very grateful for your offer.

This is correct; those listed companies hire new CDL graduates. With the endorsement you have plus the TWIC & passport, go for it.

Sad, you see drivers posting they make $28K or $30K with some mega starter company when if they had the endorsements as you do on the applications they could be making $50K - even $65K as a new CDL graduate. Also, ignore "experience required" and apply anyway. Many companies bend their own hiring rules at times, so you might just hit the jackpot.

Ha ha!! Methinks Olympian speaks much less than olympian, except maybe speaking down to you '89. The offer from Roehl is a good thing and your effort to get your TWIC, passport, Haz and endorsements speaks well for you, too. Have a look at cellopudding's thread, right out of CDL school got on with ODFL, 49 cents/mile and a top notch LTL outfit where he's linehaul on days. Claims hasn't had a week under 2500 miles since on his own a while back. Roehl would be a good place to start for OTR...

    See: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...2443-old-dominion-a-newbies-experience-3.html

Not a good idea as a new driver starting out to go tanker. On a smooth bore tanker the surge can throw you backwards into a car too close behind you until you've mastered how to bring that load to a safe stop. Turning is different, too. Tankers don't 'square' turns like with a 53' van. Best approached after some other solid experience.

Also keep in mind that you don't have to go OTR. Lots of other possibles close to home, home every night to look into, especially LTL, straight trucks (lots of companies have a truck or three). Mega OTR pay is typically lousy, especially in the beginning.

Well then let me ask you this olympian, how does one get experience without these endorsements?

Also, I hardly think just over a 200$ investment is a waste of money for endorsments....EVERY company I have spokek with has said that having a TWIC, HazMat will give me opportunity over other drivers for longer runs and more money.

If I dont use tanker or doubles/triples for another 3 years I could care less as they cost me a whopper of 14$ total. In my eyes, better to have then need...wouldnt you agree??

And one last thing, while I am a newbie driver, I dont feel grateful, I feel disgusted at .32 a mile. The job as most of you already know is trying and most certainly not easy at times...grateful you say? I say the company who hires me should be grateful...
