Hey I drive localy for a company out of Landover,MD
I am looking to make some more money, I was thinking about going to JB HUNT they offered me a Deticated Rite Aid account out of Perryman MD. I will run nights and still home every night. Average pay is 1100 they say. I have heard driveres talk about the heavy totes but I am not affraid of hard work. It sounds to good to be true. I have ran over the road with Werner so I am not a virgin I know the old bait and switch, but I do see some drivers on the road with daycabs running for Home Depot and Rite Aid so It is real. Can anyone tell me about this contract only if you have done it please. Or if anyone else has any leads on some good paying local jobs out of the DC.MD.VA Area that will help also been driving for a year 6 months OTR the rest local not endorsements yet.
Thanks
Dedicated RITE AID Account with JB HUNT

Hmmm. I'd watch out for this one. Ol' JB is infamous for promising "dedicated" runs and then when you have quit your other job and committed to them, they do the bait and switch and say that run is not available and all they have it OTR.
I know JB does have a lot of dedicated runs and some of them are pretty good deals, but I don't know if I would jump on one from another company. Thier track record isn't all that great. -
This is what I think I'd try at JoBHunt if I were promised one of these accounts--I'd get it in writing. I'd also have a clause that allows me to collect from Jobber any income I'd lose if they pull the B&S trick after promising me a deal. If I quit my job to hop to JobHunt, and then the deal goes south, I'd get paid for any lost income I'd suffer before going back to work, either at my old job or at a new job. If my new job pays less than the job I leave, I'd want to be paid the difference over 1 year. I'd do this because quitting a job you already have for a simple Jobber promise is risky. Those promises are written on three-dollar bills, understand. You should be compensated for the risk in the form of a contract.

To get this you'd have to be able to start tomorrow. They may have gave it to someone else already. -
I'd offer some sort of help.....but it could come across as an attempt to recruit, so I'll abstain.
-
I applied for a dedicated run from the rail yard to Walmart a while back and JBH said I had to drive 6 months OTR first because I had taken a year off from driving OTR. After more then 6 months OTR I applied for a dedicated curtain van gig and they said I now needed a year OTR.
I would not believe anything these people tell you. -
I have no experience with J.B. Hunt, but Rite-Aid in Perryman, Maryland is the worst receiver I ever delivered to in 42 years of driving. There is no way I would ever go back there, or buy from one of their stores.
-
I can say this now, that the Rite-Aid in MD is closed for recruiting.

i've done this contract before. (BTW, my comments might be jumbled and out of order because i'm typing them as i think of them; i may re-arrange them from time to time)
Basically, you've got to like working at night as in 10pmish to about 7am (or later) in the morning.
Also, they want you to work 6 days a week, not 5. Note: this may have recently changed
The totes aren't heavy at all. In fact, they are not totes they are pallets and you get a pallet jack. Almost all of the rite-aids have double doors in the front and you simply roll the pallets in thru the front. You'll use a liftgate. The trailers are owned by rite aid.
Most riteaids are not open 24 hours, but the managers will meet you there during your delivery window and they are mostly on time. Every riteaid mgr i met was cool.
You generally get up to 3 stores per night, so generally each store gets 4-14 pallets.
JB is generally an ok company despite what you may have heard. Yes, i know that my experience with them is only one out of thousands but i'm being entirely unbiased here. Very safety oriented. One big thing about JB is they emphasize following distance. Do everything you can to maintain a large distance between you and the car in front of you.
The Equipment is in pretty good shape.
Now, about the safety issue:
A lot of times, you will be delivering to the seedier parts of DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia at night. i generally experienced no problems because there is at least one store personel there on sight while you unload. In some cases, there are several store personel on duty. And the parking lots are generally well-lighted.
But, remember these are some of the more run-down sections of town and it is at night, so use caution. i don't know if it is true, but i heard from other drivers that a driver on this account was robbed.
The other thing is that you'll have to be doing alot of qualcomming before and after each stop AND after leaving the gate AND when you return to the DC. In other words, there is alot (unnessesary in my opinion) of qualcomming and paperwork.
The people at JB ,for the most part, were extremely cool. In my opinion, based on my personal experience, JB seems like an ok company.
The work is not hard at all and i actually enjoyed it. The only reason i quit was that i did not like working at night and the DC is about 60 miles away from my house.
In my opinion, this gig is perfect for someone who enjoys working at night, not for someone who merely wants a good paycheck---and yes you will get the $1000 per week. More than $1000, if you want more hours.
i will add more as i think of it. -
good account yes i have also heard of drivers being robbed at the larger city stores WARNING you must be good at backing in tight quarters
