Hubby's FM started "talking up" a dedicated run today - TN to MI and back. Our concern is getting the miles, obviously, but FM says we might be surprised about the miles. It is a 639 to 650 mile run one way (depending on pickup point). He is driving a lite-weight pete that goes no faster than the 62, he usually runs 58 to 60 for fuel bonus. Most of the time loads are drop and hook, so no real wait time for load or unload.

Best we can figure he would run 10.5 hrs each way, which would allow 3 round trips a week (this is assuming no traffic issues of course). This also assumes that there are no variances in the delivery or pickup points (which we all know can always happen).

With following the 70 rule, I figure he would wind up doing a 34 restart on that 7th day.

Am I missing something? Do I have this right? Or should we steer clear of this dedicated run?? Any help and answers are greatly appreciated.

    Hiya,

I assume you are talking about the run from murfreesboro to Reed city, if so I can offer a little insight into it as a friend of mine did that run for a few months. I can tell you that the best he did was 2.5 trips a week. Logically to do 6 ( 3 round trips) everything has to go perfectly because you would be squeazing 650 into 11 hours, thats difficult to do in my 65 mph truck on open roads, let alone a 62 mph truck in the states you would be running. 3 round trips/week would be 3900 miles, thats a tall order and after fuel and inspections would require an average speed speed of 59 mph at all times. Thats a difficult feat to pull off.

I can tell you that Mike did 2.5 trips a week and made good money doing it without pushing himself too hard. He made good money and ran to get the fuel bonus, so my opinion would be to do it. He loved it, just health issues forced him off the rioad or he would still be doing it. Well I am rambling on now so i will leave it at that, hope this post helps you.

    TinyToez Thanks this.

So far he has only gone Centerville TN to Reed City, so it may be the same route. FM said they are in a bind cause the guy that had the route had to quit suddenly, so he is going to do it for a while. Told the FM we would give it a month or two before we decided for sure. If the miles turn out equal or better than what he has had the last two months we will keep it.

Its a good deal simply because the miles will be consistent, no slowdown.

Wow, Sailor, I would love to be able to sit and talk to you or your friend on this!! You called it to the "T"!! :biggrin_25514: He just finished his second run, ran hard too all week, and looks to be about out of his 70 (enough time for one run up, but not back) by the time he is back in town tomorrow.

If the FM says do the 34 this time, I think we will talk about slowing it down just a hair, still get there on time, just not the 24 hrs early he has done this week, and making those hours stretch a little better. Love having him home but I kinda like the more than one day home at a time.

This is why I really appreciate you all that have been out there longer with these "new" hrs rules. In the days that hubby and I drove before hours were an issue, just not the 70 hr rule!! Thanks again!!

**EDIT PART** Oh yeah, and the miles are GREAT!!!
