DEF Line or getting shafted by PETERBILT

    Last time I had a clogged def line the truck still ran but only 5m/h luckily I was abut 7mi from a shop. Any further and a tow is baically a must.

    And any time the cel light is on the truck will not regen. It's the way the ECM is programmed .

    daf105paccar, in theory you are correct. In actuality what happens is you go from all ahead full to a loss of power that feels like bad filters. then the truck may or may not regen once. then it will derate in matter of minutes to the point where the #4 warning triangle appears on the dash and the truck won't run over 1000rpms or not at all. Tk1 in my case did a regen in my yard. immediately after that it went to 4 on the warning and wouldn't start. tk2 went from a number 2 on the triangle to a #4 in about 2 minutes and wouldn't build enough power to bobtail. It is a known issue for paccar trucks. I am currently ordering new #2/3 lines and replacing them with after market lines. I can't afford another go around with the ######## at pete. I cannot tell you what yrs are affected but again I want to say mine ARE NOT on the recall and they failed anyway. PM me if I can be of further help.

    From what I was told, PACCAR is responsible for the SCR system. The dealer said it would make more sense for it to be Cummins issue, but on the warranty side, anything SCR related is PACCAR.

    I won't even begin to tell what is wrong with your post.

    The "dealer gets paid to stock the trucks"!?!?!? No, the dealer PAYS to stock the trucks...it's called "floorplan" and is interest paid to the finance source who has paid for the trucks.

    The price difference between dealers is just that, the difference in what they need, can get, want to get, try to get or any other number of variables. The "factory" only sets the list price and CANNOT BY LAW tell the dealer what to charge. The price you are quoted is dependant upon many factors and of course you are at liberty to say "yes or no" as you see fit and as you value the truck and service being offered.

    The DEF line issue is a recall but does not affect every truck and powertrain. Cummins does not supply the DEF lines to PACCAR, they are a propietary part from PACCAR and if you go to a Cummins distributor they will charge to repair/replace them. While Cummins does manufacture most of the aftertreatment system used on PACCAR trucks, the warranty is handled via the Pete or KW dealer network.

    Not trying to be nasty, but as I would not tell you a driver, how to drive, please don't mislead others in things you are not expert in.

    Your reply wasnt nasty in any way, I'm just saying what I know from working at a dealership. I didnt work in sales I worked in the service department.

    Intersts paid to the finance source that has paid for the trucks. If the dealer pays for the trucks they wanna display or stock then they make money or interests on the trucks they paid to stock.

    Msrp. That's supposedly manufactures suggested retail price. The dealer gets thier dealer price from the manufactuar then the dealer adds its cut on on top of that and makes its msrp. Then add their adds ons or what nots after that to give you their final selling total.

    You think they would tell you or show you what they got the truck for? No way because then you'd try to get as close to that number as you can. Of course they gotta make money to their a middle man like a broker. They offer the service of selling trucks and need to make money on it also and pay employees.

    Just saying what I know and I don't think every dealer works the same way as ever driver or business man/women doenst work the same way.

    Maybe I missed something but I have never seen or purchased anything above MSRP. The MSRP is the starting point, then the dealer adds in their discount and other fees. The MSRP is not what the dealer pays for the truck.

    Be VERY CAREFUL about using after market replacement lines.. just had all 3 lines replaced on our Paccar engines.. seems that there is a recall/campaign out.. the heater wires embedded in the DEF hoses break. they warned us that some of the aftermarket hoses are just hoses & DO NOT have the heater wire inside them or the heat wire isn't adequate to keep the DEF from freezing ... looks the same but they ain't!.
    And You won't know until you run in cold weather.

    The ECM senses the broken connection(s) and may de-rate the engine or in my truck it showed the fault & during cold weather ran so so.. but fuel mileage went to hell.
