If your worried about getting cold in your truck and you want to keep your job !!!!!! I recommend this !!
1. get a military down sleeping bag...
2. get a big buddy portable indoor propane heater...
I use this product for camping in my tent ,camper etc... has a cadillatic (sp?) converter and a low oxygen sensor..It is made for indoor use

though i understand not wanting to freeze to death,, if the company has not put on an apu, what options are they giving the driver?
on the other hand, its not your truck or your fuel, so either suck it up or move on
its sad that a man has to choose between feeding his family or freezing, and if its a good job that makes the choice more difficult
before i shut down, i run my heat/a-c on and get the bunk hot or cold, then jump in the back, and unless it is 20 deg or 100deg, that can usually keep me comfortable till morning
you can get blankets, i rarely idle to keep warm
or you can reimburse the owner for the times you idle ($4/hr) -
I didn't see an answer to the obvious question. Op's co. obviously has an anti idle policy and this is likely monitored by something like QC or some dude with a calculator. If you idle the truck it's going to use fuel and the missing fuel will be noticed by someone.
Only place I could see this work is in a total slip seat operation and it wouldn't work for long. Then what........? -
You really need to stop and ask yourself....Is this device really worth losing your job? What if it flops and no one is interested? The company you work for has fired you due to altering equipment. You have then ruined your DAC record by modifying equipment that doesn't belong to you, and it will hinder you from getting another job.
I agree that the anti-idling sucks, but instead of coming up with a way to divert the anti idling maybe you should come up with a way to allow low idling without using as much fuel. This would actually sale better to companies then it would with this device you are contemplating to drivers.
I have often wondered if someone could come up with an idea like this:
A switch installed that would reduce the amount of fuel used to idle the truck. There could be a reserve tank with a filter to reduce the amount of fuel flow in order to idle and use less fuel while doing it. It is not impossible to come up with that idea, and it would be better then coming up with a device to divert the anti-idling. -
It's not a matter of IF someone is checking up behind you with a calculator, MPG is part of the IFTA calculation. And it's not a number that the owner can "claim" his truck gets, or what your ECM says, it's taken from total miles driven, and total gallons purchased. With iFTA, that lower MPG can be the difference of hundreds of dollars per quarter, on top of that $4 per hour that you seem to think is the ONLY cost associated with idling.
chalupa Thanks this. -
no it won't,it will still shut off,do u think they did not think of this.
-
how about this device, apu.does the boss turn his heat off at home at nite, the driver always pays the price, same crap different day
-
I think some people are in the wrong business... I gave a solution in my previos post... and it wouldn't cost a driver more that $1-2 a day ... But I will list the cure again..
I sleep out in a tent on 20 deg nights and never get cold...
1. military down sleeping bag used properly and YES there is a proper way to use a down sleeping bag... if you leave your clothes on you will get cold in it... if you strip down to your underwear and get in it it will keep you warm on the coldest nights in a sleeper without any problem whatsoever.. I promise
2. big buddy heater(http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/produ...rid=8444505978 ) to warm things up before you go to sleep and before you get up and get dressed .. I don't however recommend you leave it on while sleeping..and you wont get fired for it ....
A truck sleeper is insulated my tent is not
...
Now I do realize this does not help during the summer but this thread is about being cold...Last edited: Dec 10, 2012

he wont have to care about loosing his job after all the $$$ he will be raking in after it hits the market woot wooty...
-
No device like he mentions will do what he claims it will, on every type of truck with varying anti-idling technology.
Once he spends lots of money getting the thing patented, and produced, and sells a handful of units to gullible truckers........he'll be back driving a truck to make his house payments and feed his family.....and pay off his debts from his 'invention' fiasco.
(I would love to be wrong)
