Get your cdl and hit the road. Several companies will hire you. If you go to a private cdl school, make sure it's 160 hr. course.
You can also apply to trucking company cdl schools and take the best offer.

    TravR1 and rachi Thank this.

Yeah I saw that I would need to wait another year for them and then get hired so I told them no thanks.

A lot of other outfits have said I am good to go.

Also they require 40k miles of training and a lot of that is teaming. Not so interested in that.

Looks like it's swift, twt, Werner , or western express for me.

I find it a bit disingenuous of the FMCSA to ban hand held phones but allow hands free. If your using a cell phone no matter if it is hands free or not, you are still multitasking. Same can be said in a lesser degree of using a CB. I can use my ear piece and actually text and never touch my phone. What about that 16 year old driver engaged in either a phone call or text that cuts off that big rig causing that driver to hit something, something I have actually seen. Honestly I think 192.82 as written is nothing but a feel good rule that in the end don't make the public any safer. OP it is like what you have already been told, keep pounding the pavement you will finally find a job.

It's really the conversation itself that distracts the driver, not the act of holding the phone to your ear. I could hold a phone to my ear with nobody on the other end and probably miss less than somebody talking handsfree. And then they say it's okay if it's a "1-touch" device, as if that wasn't splitting hairs to the Nth degree. The problem of course is stupid people, as it always is. If everybody was smart and responsible there would be no need for laws like this that make life hell for everybody else.

yep it sure is. One of the drivers for USA Truck when I was with them missed the proper path to go up top on the GW bridge in New York. He told the head safety man there it was an accident. I heard the safety man asked to see his phone records for that day. I do know he owned up to being on the phone with his wife. I heard he really caused a royal mess that day I have never been on the bottom of the bridge so I don't know what the clearances are.

Headed north (into NY) there are a couple of vertical beams that result in sharp dog leg type lane changes ... It's scary in a 4 wheeler .
Can't imagine doing it in a rig.....

They used to allow trucks on the lower level so the overhead clearance isn't an issue.

If the dam safety crats would find honest work, rather than making up all this safety crap, natural selection would run it's course, and there would be far fewer stupid people polluting the gene pool.
I'm only half kidding when I say that...

    Oxbow and G13Tomcat Thank this.
