I remember when I was contracted to Navistar back in 2012 and we were doing the DEF testing to prove it was crap technology we had to have a signed document from the Secretary of State of California stating we were allowed to alter the ECM of the vehicles we were using to perform the testing. Each letter was for a specific vehicle we had and we could not leave the state of California. We used the I 80 and drove from West Sacramento to Truckee and then turned around and came back. We had to have that program on a laptop for each of the vehicles so we could do modifications and clear codes. More than once we went into derate. What a pain in the tookis.

We proved it was b.s. and the EPA said too bad, everyone has to use it.

Very well said, it requires intelligence, the ability to reason, logic and honesty which are outdated values these days.

When I did my contract renewal in February this topic came up. The instructor said they had decided to just replace the two mile rule with a five mph rule and not to implement a whole new line type for "yard move".

Would yard move have counted as off duty or on duty? Makes a big difference.

Also, your contract renewal included an instructor and discussions about things? Huh. Mine just sorta... happened... I think? Nobody called me or told me anything. I'm still hauling Landstar loads and getting paid, so I'm assuming it got renewed last August. I didn't even think about it until you just mentioned it.

5 mph is nothing. You will hit 5 all the time.

Ah, I see, thanks. Do I have to do anything? Do they make us go to Dallas and stuff?

I just had to bumble around a TA under a 5mph derate, and I second that. 5mph is painfully slow. Everybody was beepin at me.

You have to do CABS again and you have to take the hazmat training/certification test again (federal reg). Also, I had to sign everything again. Check your lease agreement in your permit book. Mine says it's good for three years.

I didn't know I had to do all this. I got a notice on my front screen about a hazmat certification requirement so I went through my old emails and found the website and passwords for the online course we had to take and did it again thinking that was all I had to do. But the notice didn't go away and when it was a week from due I called and found out about all the rest.
