I understand what you are saying, I have hauled many a load out of southern California, and quite frankly my hat is off to you, I know I could not have been a LEO in the place. Id have a psychotic episode.

As far as the business loving you back, it can, years ago when I was running for Yellowstone we had our little group that did that haul out of long beach, and we were fairly tight. We would all park at the Kohls at the corner of Cherry and Carson there by long beach intl, the one across the street from walmart.

I really yearn for those days, I have been out of trucking for 4 1/2 years, I went to college, thought I was going to change career's, I should have just stayed in the truck. Getting out is one of my biggest regrets ever.

A lot of people do live out of the truck, and when you are getting started it is not a bad idea, use mom and dads address for mail if you can.

Then save that money. that extra 12 grand a year in your pocket will go a long way.

Also, sell your furniture and what not, don't store it. you will regret it if you store it all for a few years because it just gets expensive.

One day when you have saved enough cash, then you can think about getting a place, and by then you will know what freight lanes you usually run, and you will be able to get a place where you will be able to go home frequently.

For this reason I think eventually I am going to wind up buying a little farm in Iowa. See if I can get 20-40 acres, something that is big enough to actually plant and harvest.

good call that would be beautiful. the midwest has always been a favorite. ill probably pay rent here for a few months and see how i do otr before living out of the truck. i have no furniture but a few things to store like a few bikes and other personal stuff. problem is i have no family out here and im not sure what the cheapest method is to send them some stuff across the country.

See if you can find a place that will let you set down a 20' container for 20 bucks a month. Cheapest storage you can find, and when it comes time to move you can load it on a flat bed in 1 pick.

like PODS? good call on that. perfect idea. i know its about 40 or 50 a month for a storage unit-heck of a lot cheaper than 650 a month and i have friends in about 10 states that i could crash and take some hometime. how do you stay in shape?? i plan on cleaning up my diet and i purchased a kettlebell. i also skate so that would be fun just cruising around the rest areas to relax.

Get a membership at a nationwide gym like 24 hour fitness or golds gym, you can work out there, and you can use thier shower, I have gone in there just to use the shower before, kind of a perk of the membership, and they are almost certain to be cleaner than the truck stop.

Oh and you look around you can buy a 20 foot sea can for about 12-1500 bucks in water tight condition. You should be able to find a place to store it for 20-40 bucks a month.

Though I appreciate the positivity, and I am not trying to be negative, but I highly doubt a student could lease a truck successfully. Actually I don't think any company out there would lease a student a truck without a year of experience. If you go and try to do it yourself you maybe able to get a truck but will pay hell trying to find someone to insure you.

Would you buy an airplane before learning to fly?
