I'm still just running 2 cars with my trailer, but I'm of course CDL and I usually always do 2 trucks or SUVs but I've been doing $5k weeks more common than not. I haven't seen any real downturn that everyone is complaining about. In fact this year so far has been my best to date considering I started in the of the 2019 blood bath then had the pandemic right after.. So this has been the best start of a year for me to date.

Grossing 5k a week running how many miles? 3k miles a week for 5k gross is bad, 2k miles a week for 5k gross is pretty good. When I ran the 3 car heavy duty trailer I'd gross 6-7k running 2500 miles a week max, usually closer to 2000 miles a week. Always hauling 2 large units and 1 medium unit.

I started Aug' 19, by November of that year I was making very good money and it always got better till I got the H&T. My current setup sucks and is killing me slowly. I still don't move for less than $2 all miles so I sit at home till I manage to put a decent load together. I'm barely running more than 3 days a week lately. I run NYC to Richmond mostly now for $900+ each way. About 350 miles and takes one day each direction with loading/unloading.

Its time for me to go big or go home. Either get me a 5 car suncountry or sell everything and leave trucking altogether.

Well, that or go back to small and do what was making money before. Don't always think bigger is better. Personally, I think about 3 car is the most ideal set up. Once you start going bigger you have too much time involved in picking up and dropping different locations or you accept lower rates to fill the trailer with one customer.

Personally, I don't go for the Point A to Point B to point A routes because it forces you to take loads to those destinations vs what pays the best. I'd rather build my load around a good-paying Point A to D and fill in the load with some picks and drops along the way from points B & C or D. This way you aren't stressed about picking up every car the same day or trying to drop them all the same day and reload, you drop one here pick one there. Less stress and hurrying.

As far as $5k/week I obviously know with more vehicles you can make more, the point I was making is that good for just 2. I just don't see the drop in rates you guys are saying but maybe it's because I don't run the same route but rather I follow where the money goes.

Personally, I don't put as much emphasis on X amount per mile. No, I don't touch cheap cars, but I prefer to look at money per day. It doesn't do me any good to sit at home or in a hotel waiting for X amount when I could be running and making money. I let the rate per mile average out over the week vs looking at each and every load. As long as I'm hitting my weekly target without excessive extra expense I'm fine with dropping below $2/mile sometimes.

Even if I had a 4 car, I wouldn't carry 4 cars @ .50/mile if I could haul 2 @ $1.80.. There is more than just x per mile.. Time has a price too and sometimes a lighter load at slightly less is better than heavy paying a bit more. A lot of factors than just X.xx/mile IMO.

When you say gross 5k you mean after fuel and expenses are paid you take home 5k, correct?

Not crocky but gross means how much you made before your expenses and net is your take home.

LOL, no I'm not netting $5k/week hauling 2 vehicles.. I wish. I tend to average running 5 days a week when I'm OTR because I always end up sitting somewhere a day here or a day there or I do a reset because I hate running recaps. A lot of times I'll leave on a Monday and be back home by Sat as well. It just depends on what out load I get if I can make that work.

I try to average $1k/day to the truck but you have to remember I'm starting my trips coming out of FL so that in itself kills a lot of income potential which is why I'm working on getting out of FL...

This looks like a sturdy build to haul cars.
