How did that 10k single unit trailer work out? There’s a place selling one here for $6,000 or so. You could load a Chevy Tahoe or an F-150 on one of those and be pretty safe on the weight right?

The trailer isn't working out so I put it up for sale.
Loading any American truck or van puts the wheels on the edges on both sides on an 82" wide trailer. Kinda sketchy with lasso straps. Yea you can load one of those and be safe weight wise.

Gotcha. 102" wide deckover type trailer like this one would be better for those I take it?

Yea 102 deckover would fit duallies, trucks and vans. I wouldn't go with a wooden deck though. Lasso style straps suck. If I had to do it again I'd go with take 3 single car 102 trailer with pooched decking with OTT straps.

You can get the trailer derated to whatever weight you need to stay under 26k. If that truck in your avatar is the one you are using (ie with out the bed) if it were me and I was buying a new trailer, I'd buy a low-profile wedge as a cdl set up then have it derated to whatever you need.

As far as non CDL.. I dunno, I started with a non CDL set up and it was a 2 car flat (36ft) I could load around 10k I think it was. It wasn't easy to make that work, because you couldn't really do 2 trucks or 2 vans so was very limited but it depends where you are out of. If you are in a bad area like I am (aka FL) it's very hard to make that work, but say if you are up in the NE or maybe upper mid west there is enough cars to pick from. Meaning location has a lot to it.

The problem is fuel is high right now and everything costs more. I suspect everyone's insurance will go up this next year as well. Meaning the cost of business has gone up but rates, as usual, stay the same so it becomes harder to make money. Personally, I wouldn't look to get into doing cars unless you can do 3. If your truck is light enough you should be able to run three with a typical wedge. There is no way I'd buy one of those 2 car wedges.. I'd only buy a CDL trailer and have it derated, preferably one of the low pro wedges

Those are cool. I wonder if any money to be made specializing in obnoxiously big single units like Sprinter vans or 1-ton DRWs on one of those 20ft x 102" wide 1-car units. 7k axles and gooseneck.

Probably the smartest idea and a very good point. The truck with that bed will sell easily for a good price.

Not really... Every once in a great while you might get a good load for a single-vehicle but it's extremely rare.. You won't make money with a 1 car trailer.

The simple reality. If you want to get into cars, you need to be able to haul at least 3 cars or you will constantly be struggling. You might get a good out load to somewhere for 2 cars but then you get there and everything is paying .50 or .60 cents..

If you want to do non CDL it's probably best to go with freight. Other wise you need a light weight set up to do 3 cars.

$1-$1.40 per mile max for those loads and that will just about cover fuel and a meal. If you can take 3 large units you will consistently earn $3 a mile or more.
