I am curious as to what a typical agreement between a carrier and O/O looks like. I understand th difference between mileage and % but what is standard to expect? What obligations do I have as an O/O and what obligations are on the carrier?

It depends on the carriers terms. Each is different. Some provide plates for free or a fee. Others give authority or require you to have your own. Some pay things others don't, like tolls. The carrier I am leased to provides an authority. They pay my authorized tolls that are then billed to their customer. When I had owner operators working for me a while back, I provided authority, plates, cargo and liability insurance if they pulled my trailers.

It's spelled out in the lease. You can "agree" to their stipulations or "change" an item. However, they must "initial" any changes. Usually, you get to see their package before you sign. Don't rush, read it over carefully. Something to watch out for a carrier that wants to re-negoiate your lease, 6 months in.

Is an O/O an employee or do they get a 1099?
The O/O is responsible for fuel and maintenance on their equip at the 85% correct?
thanks for the advice -
Yes the o/o is responsible for fuel, maintenance, and bills.

The O/O is responsible for 100 percent fuel, manintenance and all repairs and almost all tickets and fines incurred.
Some carriers provide the trailers and if so, they normally are responsible for all repairs and maintance except any damage that occures.
O/O are supposed to get 100 percent fuel surcharge money, but alot of carriers keep part of this secretly.admhays Thanks this.
