What about the model #? See a PK, MK, or any other letter? GK?
-
The PK and BK blocks have the oil squirters for cooling. The standard MK GK and TK didn’t. All blocks were drilled for them after 4-2-98. MK, GK, TK, being capped, and easily added. They had 2 different style wristpins. Bolt on and free floating, with different rods. There’s also drilled rods that push oil to the wrist pins. The PK had 15:1, BK, 16:1. They also had a 17.25:1 piston. Maybe for later emission or marine engines. I really don’t know. My facts are probably tainted. Just trying to give you some ideas, about upgrading to the best kit you can. Aftermarket kits have proven themselves also. Lots of good kits at 2/3 the price of DD. Search this forum, you’ll find all the info.
Speed_Drums and rankd1 Thank this. -

I don’t get why not diagnose or check wear items before condemning them......m’fers wonder why their broke
haycarter, Oscar the KW, exhausted379 and 1 other person Thank this. -
1.5 mill on a Detroit using oil? I would measure blow by. But whats more to diagnose? Chances are its plum wore out.
-
The bull gear is my point.....pull a few bolts out stick a pry bar in a gear and theirs your answer. Doing #### on x mileage can be a waste.
Telling a guy that don’t know it’s wore ### out you can overhaul it yourself isn’t real smart either. I mean it’s not rocket science but how many blame poor quality of parts on poor install? Truth hurts some times and many do not want to hear it but is what it isblairandgretchen, bzinger, haycarter and 4 others Thank this. -
Dino soar Thanks this.

Putting a overhaul kit in and not replacing bull gear bearings, thats a piss poor rebuild. Yea you can replace the bearings for about 100 bucks.
No way I'm putting cylinder kits in a Detroit and not rebuilding bull gear. It is a interface engine. But I'm poor and over spend.AModelCat, Dino soar and Elroythekid Thank this. -
Again James your missing the point. My point being I wouldn’t start it till it’s replaced. As was posted by not you or I. I have built more 12.7’s 3406’s and big cams than you can put on a container ship. We both know I’m not an idiot We can tip toe all day or I can be blunt how you want to do it?????
We both know wtf I’m talking aboutBadmon, Rideandrepair, blairandgretchen and 2 others Thank this.
