from the filler tube?? I presume you mean when you take the cap off right??
But yeah all the detroits i ever had anything to do with has had blowby out the slobber pipe on the bottom. Just a little out the filler tube mainly when it was cold out. least thats when it was most noticeable, you really had to study it on a hot day to see it.
How much oil does it use?? It can be rings bad in it if its got alot of blowby and useing alot of oil -
the new 14ltr detroits don't have blowby like th eold ones but yes, the older series 60's all have blowby right off the assembly line. you can walk through the truck stop at night and tell who has a detroit by the oil smoke cloud coming from under the truck

so the blowby from the oil filler tube and dipstick is normal the truck is a 2000

if the pressure is pushing the dipstick out of the tube then no it's not normal. but if it's blowing out when you pull the stick out or open the fill tube then I wouldn't worry about it.
there is a tube that hangs down the side of the oil pan. there is usually snoke coming out of that when it's running. That's what they call the slobber tube. if there is nothing coming out of it then it could be pluged up and causing the pressure to build up in the motor. If that's hapening it will start to cause oil leaks at gaskets as it's blowing the gaskets out esentially -
thanks alot

Is it normal at operating temperature on a 98 Detroit 12.7 60 series motor to have steam coming out the oil filler tube while running and nothing coming out the blow by tube underneath?
