For injectors it showed up when truck was plugged into the computer, I showed I had a bad injector and mechanics later found the wiring harness on injectors was in really bad condition.

For the turbo problem I felt like truck was hauling 30k loads when I was only bobtailing. Every shop told me turbo was okay I even changed the turbo actuator and VPOD and VPOD air lines and CAC and new clamps and air hoses. And at the end it was a bad/failing turbo. I was not blowing black smoke tho.

Best thing for that engine is do a true egr delete. Reflash ecm and change to a Garret 171702 turbo. Truck will purr better than new. And get 7+ mpg.

True but the engine brake will be less effective.

The original design uses the the variable vane turbo in conjunction with the engine brake.
So in essence with the original design you have an engine brake and an exhaust brake working together.
When you eliminate the the variable vane turbo you eliminate part of the engine braking system.
I have a 600 HP tune in my 14.0 liter but it is tuned to still use the variable vane turbo.
It probably produces a little less power than with the standard style turbo but the engine brake effectiveness is one of the best I have ever driven.

My 07 Freightliner Columbia/Detroit 60 does the same thing. Been happening for a year now. I’ve had it for three. I just changed my turbo air line from actuator to vpod because the line was rotted and leaking. Bought a new air compressor as well. (Mechanic said it wasn’t pumping when he tested it). That was because of the turbo line leaking...anyway, i know it has something to do with the actuator, turbo, or vpod!!!!! When I’m in 7th gear+ once I reach 12-14 rpm it spurts and shakes my truck and black smoke comes out...but only about 3-4 spurts per gear until I reach 10th. It happens more-so under a load but I’ve noticed it empty plenty of times. Can anyone help us???

My 60 series has been deleted egr and dpf.. I noticed after a downhill followed by a uphill it will start sputtering and coughing out smoke. The only way to minimize it is to not push the fuel pedal all the way down while going up the hill..... Any idea what this can be? The turbo sounds like a jet engine......
